Super User Senko lover Posted May 2, 2015 Super User Posted May 2, 2015 So yesterday I was fishing and caught 3 smaller bass on a senko in light drizzle. The rain picked up and started coming down really hard. So I tied on a buzzbait, my favorite rain lure. Threw it out there, turned the handle a couple of times, and WHAM! The bait was stopped cold and my rod was doubled over. The fish was peeling drag like crazy and I realized I had my drag all the way down. So I tightened it up and I think I tightened it a little too far. The fish jumped, and I could tell it was the big 7 3/4 lber that I caught about a month ago. She headed back down and suddenly I had my bait back. . The good news is, she's still in there and I know I'll get her again. That would have been awesome to land an 8 pound bass on a buzzbait........ And yes, I had a phone with me . 1 Quote

Super User Darren. Posted May 2, 2015 Super User Posted May 2, 2015 Ah yes, happens now and then. Good strike and good fight to get you all excited, then that empty bait to rip your heart out Have had a number of those myself. The worst are when you almost have them in the net, or by the lip only to have them spit the hook back at you. Quote
Catch 22 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 At least you got to see her, thats not near as bad as not getting a look. Maybe next trip. C22 Quote
*Hank Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 To bad Hopefully you catch her again. Same thing happened to me on Saturday with a trout while I was fishing with a jerkbait the drag was all the way down when he hit but I tightend the drag in time and landed the 3lb rainbow trout. Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 So you have caught her before?? Good call with the buzz in the rain. I can see that being good. Way to go The force is strong in you. I have a big one I have jiged 3 x and haven't even seen her. She took m e under a the boat one time and pulled off. I think she is a bass and would b my best if I could lamnd her. Same spot every time and she will only tak a jig. Quote

She wouuld probably not be as fat/heavy if I caught her now but still a giant fish. The buzzbait is a phenomenal rain lure, because it cuts through the chop on the surface. Quote
Felixone Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Ah yes, happens now and then. Good strike and good fight to get you all excited, then that empty bait to rip your heart out Have had a number of those myself. The worst are when you almost have them in the net, or by the lip only to have them spit the hook back at you. I had a period of about a month where I couldn't land anything. Each time I would get them to the kayak they would shake and throw the lure just as I was reaching to grab them. This was doubly frustrating as during this time I was also struggling to even find fish so losing one was typically the difference between catching something or going home empty handed. Well technically I always go home empty handed as I typically release what I catch, but you get the idea. The only time I don't mind that a fish throws the lure, especially if I get to experience the fight, is when it is a pickerel. One of the ponds I fish has more pickerel than bass so when I catch one I will let it fight for a bit before dropping the rod tip to create slack in hopes that it will shake itself free. They are fun to catch, but those teeth hurt if you aren't careful. Quote
