Hi I recently got the reel mentioned for a pretty good deal but now im wondering if its going to be a problem? I am in AZ and fish for everything from trout to flathead cats.

Am I going to be ok with a 4000 size spool?

Will i be ok with 4-6lb fluoro?

Can i just put a smaller spool on the reel or is the bailer and other parts a different size too?

Thanks in advance!

I think the only 2 you can interchange spools are the 2500 and 3000.

I don't think the reel is too big given the fact it will be used for different species.  No question about it, lots of line capacity which can't hurt you.  I probably would spool it up with braid.

You can't swap the spool, body is a different size. 6lb line would be fine, but you better buy a bulk spool, or use something as backing. I'd probably go a minimum of 8lb. 4000 is pretty big for most practical bass applications. I use a 4000 for catfish, stripers, etc.

I don't believe the 4000 is too big for bass.  I have two and they are my favorite reels for bass/walleyes/inshore salt.  They are hardly any heavier than the 3000, have a bigger spool so are a little better with higher pound test lines.  The only problem is that spools are really expensive, so if you need extras, you may want to go with the 3000.  Price the spools to see if I remember right that the 3000 spool is much less expensive.  Now and then a 4000 shows up on Ebay for a reasonable price.  I also have a Shimano Symetre that for about $100 is a great reel.  If I were buying new I would have to go that way and save $100 for extra spools.  I also have heard great stuff about the new Abu Garcia reels in the $100-$150 range.  I think their drags are rated at higher capacity than Shminos in similar sizes.
