Carolina Rig Rod Specs?

Gonna experiment again this weekend in practice if they aren't shallow yet. Water temp has been between high 40s down to 39 with the random cold fronts. Last week was seeing them hold up in 20ft but the weren't eating what I was throwing except a couple around 8-10ft I got on a jerkbait.

With that said I've never really thrown it before. I have a bunch of rods to pick from, so what's good for this? 7ft mh/f??? 7'3? 7' H?

I grabbed some 3/4 egg sinkers plan on doing a fluke with a 3 ft leader and dragging it up and down ledges. From what I've read you do a sweeping hook set... Any other pointers would be appreciated. Then again if they're shallow I'm jerking all day lmao.

3/4oz is at the top of the range for a MH rod. I'd use the heavy. Plus I like a longer rod for C rigs to help with the hookset since at times you'll be deep.

Casting with a three foot leader will be easier with a longer rod as well. A 7'6 would be my choice.

I use 1/2 oz with a 12-18" leader on either my 7' Veritas 2.0, which does an amazing job, or my new Dixie Custom 6'8 MH. The Dixie has the better feel, and it is the one I have the Team Lite on, so it gets used the most. Had 29,25 the last two trips. We're finally part of the group of people who are catching in the 20s around here.

MH / Hvy etc mean different things to different manufacturers. Sounds like the 73 *** would work but I'm not familiar enough to know if the 1oz rating is accurate. The flipping stick probably doesn't have the tip I'd want for C-rigs but if the *** feels over loaded switch it up. A C-rig can save the day from thw back of the boat but some find it a painful way to fish. If you throwit long enough you will get bit. I like a floating lizard as the bait lots of times.

I throw the c-rig ALOT!

I use. 7'6" crucial mh/f.

I think your 7'3" will be the way to go. If your fluke doesn't work, try a trick worm.

Move the bait with the rod, sideways drags. ... sweep set. The bite is similar to a t-rig most of the time. .... but sometimes you'll never feel it- it'll just feel "different". Set the hook!

So I forgot to throw Carolina keepers in my bag and didn't have any swivels with me. Used bobber stoppers and the weight kept sliding the stoppers down. Bead and all. So mission failed although we did pattern them fairly quickly and caught dozens of 2-4lbers with other stuff
