Last_Cast Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hey guys, I currently live in Queens NY. I refuse to fish anywhere in the 5 boroughs. Luckily Long Island is close. BUT The fishing isnt the best. Tried many of Lakes and barely catch anything( I dont see others catching a d**n thing neither) I honestly wouldnt mind having a better experience.. ANY INPUT WOULD BE NICE AS FAR AS SPOTS, TIMES, WHAT YOU GUYS USE. Thanks!!!!! Quote
boatnik13 Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I remember fishing out of Riverhead L.I. as a kid in the 1960's at Wildwood lake, All summer long and there was a cranberry marsh nearby you can see on your google map that was host to big bass and pickerel. No one fished the marsh but us and Wildwood lake had big fish but getting onto the lake for non residence of the area was tough going. We moved to Pa. in 68 and that was it. Good luck on L.I. 1 Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Check out the DEC website for the area Right now the bass are sluggish and not biting very well but soon the summer pattern should kick in Quote
Last_Cast Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 I've been fishing all over long island for quite a while with a buddy of mine. We covered a HUGE chunk of Long Island and had no luck. Caught very very few fish. I mean like just about nothing. We gave up on Long Island and started going up north. Had much better luck. We decided to go to a lake we've had a decent time with in LI just because I didn't feel like paying the tolls and glad I decided on that. 4.35lbs 20in Quote
Last_Cast Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 I work in long island 1 day out of the week. I wouldn't mind knowing a few spots myself! I usually just use Google maps and then check the ponds out myself I've been doing the same with a buddy of mine...any luck with some of the lakes?? Quote

Sethers pond in west Babylon has blue gill trout sunfish, haven't caught anything there. Quote

I've been to them. havent caught much. went to both a bunch of times, maybe caught a pike and 4 little trout... have you had luck in any other lakes? Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Take a look at the DEC website. "Massapequa Reservoir is a very popular fishing spot in Nassau County that might just be the most heavily fished pond on Long Island" I would go nowhere near it. Most spots here are pressured so its really hard to catch stuff. I'd say just get off the island and travel a little ways out of NYC and you'll see tons of lakes and ponds. Quote
thomas15 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Have you considered either Fairfield county/Danbury, CT or Northern NJ? I'm in PA and have a lake literally right around the corner from me but if I want to catch fish I have to travel 1 to 1.5 hours. Quote
trisdisp57 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Mainly fish the reservoir and sethers pond for convenience, I live really close to them. I hear a lot about bubble falls in oakdale Sayville area. A lot of trout and large mouth. Lake Ronkonkoma has some decent fishing to I hear but its really busy over there. I am gonna head out east on my next day off. There is a couple ponds in middle island that have some good activity I think its artist lake. Yaphank has a nice size pond, upper Yaphank lake, I went fishing out there 2 years ago but there is very little shore access but you can rent a row boat. I think Im gonna try that but my fishing partner (my son) is 5 and I'm not sure how well he will take being on a boat and fishing. Blydenburg lake in smithtown, last time I fished there was 2 years ago, decent size large mouth bass, you can rent a boat but you have to pay for parking. that's another option. I hear they have some good activity there to. I do have to spread out a little more and explore other options of where to fish. Quote

I fish up north as much as possible, but the tolls are a killer Have you considered either Fairfield county/Danbury, CT or Northern NJ? Blydenburg is a decent lake, actually caught quite a few big bass out there. It's probrably the best spot on the island IMO Quote
