Ghostshad Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I'm gonna order a few swim jigs from Mike, money is tight, what is the best all around weight 3/8 or i/2 ? God Bless & Thanks Quote
Zach Dunham Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I usually use a half ounce unless really necessary to go lighter. It is more versatile, in my opinion. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 3/8oz and 1/2oz are all I really use for swim jigs... I'd have to lean towards 3/8oz though. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 3/8 for me. his swim jigs (like everything he has) are of the highest quality 1 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 3/8 for me. his swim jigs (like everything he has) are of the highest quality x2. 3/8 is the best for me. Sinks at a nice rate and you can fish it slow without it hanging up in the weeds. Add a Rage Twin tail menace and you're dynamite. Quote
*Hank Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 3/8oz is deffintelly the best choice if your only going to get one size. Quote
cottny27 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I agree with the Rage Menace and 3/8th. I have luck with the cheap Terminator swim jigs. Quote
Heron Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 3/8oz...better bouyancy. Basically the same thing everyone else has said. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I sell more 3/8 then any other weight. Probably all weights combined. 2 Quote
annexation Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I thought I was in the majority, preferring 1/4 oz. for swim jigs, but this thread has convinced me otherwise. I like that I can fish them slower at this size, generally. 1 Quote

Super User Senko lover Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 With a trailer 3/8s is preferrable. 1/2 oz. works too! Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 A 3/8 oz jig is probably the best 'all-purpose compromise'. But here's the irony: the jig weights I use most frequently are 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz. Although 3/8 oz is the mean weight, I don't use it as often as 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz. Roger Quote
boostr Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I have 1/4 oz for shallow, and 3/8ths for slow and deeper... (Barry White music in the background) Quote
CDMeyer Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I would say 3/8 if you only can get a view. Here's why, big bass will still bite smaller baits, but in those tough days you might need a smaller bait to catch a fish ( any size) and that 1/2 will just be to big and bulky in those days Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 4, 2015 Super User Posted May 4, 2015 I use a 3/8 ounce most often, but a 1/4 ounce in shallower water or over grass, and a 1/2 ouncer deep. You need all three IMO. Quote
hatrix Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Any where from a 1/4 to 1/2 oz depending on the situation. I fish a lot of 1/4 since it is usually a lot of grass or fished shallow. It also depends on the trailer and what jig and some fish different. I almost always fish a paddle tail for s trailer. Quote
