Bigchunk Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 So im thinking im going to change to fluro on my jig rod and my flippin rod, 20 lb for jig 25 for flippin?? Thoughts? Quote
Bigchunk Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 SeagUar abrasx however you spell it, the 12 and 15 i have for cranks and what not is super strong, so 20 and 25 should be plenty Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I don't think you need to go higher than 15-17# for casting jigs around cover. I use 16# sniper or sunline fc leader around some pretty gnarly stuff. For flipping I think you're spot on with the 25# though. You could probably get away with 20#, but if your water isn't all that clear, I'd stick with the 25#. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 Depends on the cover. I am not a big fan of braid, but braid in weeds, there's nothing better. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 I'm thinking about it myself - but I might really mix things up by adding a braid leader. A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 It's the best of both worlds! 1 Quote

Super User Jrob78 Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 I use fluoro for 100% of my jig fishing. I have 17 lb on my regular jig rod and 20 lb on my heavy jig rod. My pitching rod that sees jigs also has 20 lb fluoro. My pitching rod with braid is reserved for soft plastics and heavy vegetation. Quote
CDMeyer Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 That is smart for flippin small cover but if I were you I would still want done tough braid fir that thick cover. Sometimes you need that safety net and horse power to pull em out Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted May 1, 2015 Super User Posted May 1, 2015 I hate braid but its on my frog and punching rig, because as Franco already stated ain't nothing better in weeds Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted May 1, 2015 Super User Posted May 1, 2015 Love braid/fluro leader on my flippin/pitchin stick. Use 20# leaders and the mussels don't cut my line nearly so bad. Seem to still catch a bunch of fish too. Great thing about this sport....so many options. Quote
