Lacustrine Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Just went to the post office to send warranty submission and got there 15 minutes before closing. The doors were locked and the post man just waved through the window. I'm glad I pay taxes! With customer service like that I'll be using them again for sure (I have to). Quote
Lacustrine Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Are there any parts that I should salvage off of the rod? Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 1, 2015 Super User Posted May 1, 2015 There's nothing on there that you can really use. Unless you know how to build your own rods. Quote
Lacustrine Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I don't build my own rods, but could start if the salvageable parts are quality. I hate wasting parts. I about had a heart attack making the first cut on the rod with a hack saw. Quote
Matthew2000 Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 All of you are ok with paying 20$ beasue of a manufacturer defect. That's not customer service that's what I call a scam. Quote

How so? The company is taking care of his defective rod. They're are sending him a replacement, but he's got to pay $20 shipping. Pretty dang good deal if you think about it. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 2, 2015 Super User Posted May 2, 2015 Yup, that's more than fair, the only thing cheaper would be a over the counter swap.. Nobody does that anymore outside of 30 days, typically Quote

The only thing better than that is making and repairing the rods yourself. $20 to cover freight ain't too shabby. Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted May 2, 2015 Super User Posted May 2, 2015 I would take the rod the you don't have to ship back to the company to get fixed. Pick a rod, go ahead, and pick any rod you want. Okay, now someone has had an issue with that rod. I can guarantee you that much. We are human and not perfect. Defective rods slip by sometimes. Paying for shipping is 110% normal in this day and age. You're still young yet. You'll learn these things at some point. Quote
Lacustrine Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I would take the rod the you don't have to ship back to the company to get fixed. I threw the rest of the rod away. I started thinking about it and thought that it would be dishonest to use the rod since the company does not require yot to ship the entire rod, which saves me money be not shipping a larger package, to them to stop you from doing this, and since they are repairing it for just shipping cost I did not want to cheat the company. Lacustrine Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I did keep the replacement tip though since that was sent to me under warranty. Quote
Nolan Hunter Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 So is a duckett ghost a good rod to get to punch with? Yes i have a MH 7FT ghost and I love it for flipping and pitching, you'll feel evrything with it if you make the choice to grab one. Quote

Lacustrine Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 A manufacturer defect should be payed for by the company. Not covered by the customer. I totally agree. Duckett is covering the cost of a new rod and saving me the cost of shipping my rod to them only for the cost of return shipping (and shipping the serial number piece of the rod, but that only costed $2.50) though. Even if you look at St. Croix, who has on of the best customer service reps around charge shipping of $15 to them and $20 return shipping to repair your rod. I have seen those fees waived before on this forum though when it was a manufacturers defect. Quote
WPCfishing Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 Are the New Micro Magic rods still having the problems last years and prior models have? I was going to buy a 6'6" MH. I'm not so sure now, I don't want to buy a problem. Quote

Will let you know how it works. 1 Quote
shawnmc Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I have a 7' MH Micro Magic Pro. No issues with it. Caught me 2 nice bass this morning. Quote
Alpha Male Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 First...about duckett rods...they sound like fine rods, but I will never consider buying one. I dislike that they don't put the lure rating on the rods. That's a deal breaker for me, its worse than the house brand rods like gander Mt or cabelas that just rate the rod as medium action or medium-heavy action. From a rod in this price range I expect more, and there is plenty or competition in the 100-200$ range. As far as warranty goes paying for return shipping is par for the course. I have had to return 3 rod in the last 9 months. 1 abu garcia veritas had a guide insert come out, the rod was 8months old. 10$ in return shipping got me a veritas 2.0. 2 was a pinnacle perfecta that had the tip break off, I had to cut out the part of the rod with the specs on it and send it in with a payment for 20$ for return shipping. 3rd was a 30+ year old fenwick eagle flipping stick that cracked below the first guide from the reel. 15$ to ship them the rod and 10$ for them to send me a brand new hmx. They replace the rod and we pay for shipping...its a good system...lets not start messing with it. Quote

WPCfishing Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 I bought a Fenwick HMG. 6'6" 3/8-1oz.I can't say enough good about it.. Better than I expected. All the positive reviews I read about the Fenwick are true. You all should try one. You won't be disappointed. In fact I'm going to sell a St Croix Premier 1/4-3/4 and replace it with another HMG with the same rating. Buy one! If there's ever an issue with it which I doubt very much I can go back to Dicks with it or contact Fenwick. I'll give Duckett another look next year along with Falcon Quote

WPCfishing Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Getting back to Duckett. I've read they are lighter than what they are rated. So a MH is more like a MM. Is that true? Quote
