One thing the did do though is when my rod tip was chipped they sent me a new one free of charge.I might have just called on a bad day, but I was not treated very good.

Is this rod with the twisting handle the rod that replaced the broken tip rod? I know that once you receive a new rod from Duckett on a replacement for warranty, the rod sent is now void of warrenty. If someone knows different, please correct me. The warranty page has changed since I registered my micro magic. If they are willing to help you with your reel seat on a replacement rod for minimal cost of a new one I would go for it. I believe you just have a bad circumstance for the defect. I agree though that it sucks none the less.

Lacustrine , I am sorry that happen to you. I'm not saying I do not believe you I was just wondering why they would not help you. that is why I ask for more info. I've had very good luck with Duckett CS but that doesn't mean that every one has. I'm sorry for your bad luck.

They would help, but since the 20 warranty was older than 1 year they said they had a newer version and would have to charge me $40 + Shipping ($20) because the bugs had been worked out of the older version. I just did not want to pay that much when it was the manufacturers fault.

I did get more respect over email. This way I was told that they would repair (not replace, but I am fine with that.) for $20, but I had to pay shipping to them which, according to the rep, would cost $25.

What experiences have you had with them SenkoGuru?

I have never replaced the rod, just the tip. I never sent this rod in, I only called to get a quote. Do you still think I should get it replaced? I filled the void with epoxy so it does not twist any more. If I need to replace it, all they want is the about 4" with the serial number and logo +$60.

I broke a 7'3 heavy white ice on a hook set and sent the cut out piece to them and had a new rod in 3 days, it didn't cost me anything other than to pay my shipping. I also had two Ghost rod's that were already out of warranty, that had turned yellow in color. I contacted Duckett and was told they had a bad batch of clear coat on the first run of ghost and to send them to them. I cut them out, only sending the piece with the rod model and they sent me two new rod's and some Duckett shirts for my trouble. The rods also have a new one year warranty covering them.

I do own 19 Duckett rod's though with most being the $200.00 White Ice and they know this, so it may have had something to do with it.

No wonder you like them. I LOVED the way they felt, but it was so much to get fixed. I am a college student and could not afford it. I have only used the rod of probably a grand total of 18 hours, though I have had it over a year, finding someone with a boat is tough. The tip broke and the reel seat twisted. I am VERY careful with my rod, and even use a rod cover, lay it only on a flat surface away from vents and windows, and never lay it on a hard surface. I think it was a defected rod, and that is why I thought they should replace it for cheaper.

Yes, it sound like it was a defective rod. I'm sorry they didn't honor the warranty for you.

I grew up poor but I was lucky and was able to get a great job in the oil field and make a great living. As I began to get older I started to spend some of my coin on new fishing toys. I have a feeling with you being in college you will be able to buy good toys soon too. Good luck.

I can afford a lot, I have several jobs, (I do own a Duckett), but adding $60 onto the original $160 is causing it to be quite an expensive rod, getting close to a G.Loomis. When did you get yours replaced. Maybe they have changed.

My Ghost were just recently replaced because of the bad clear coat I think they wanted those off of the market because they looked bad so I can understand that. The white ice was over a year ago and well before the new micro magic pro rods were released.

Please do not take my last comment as bad, I meant it to be respectful, I did not mean in any way that you are poor. I was just saying I had grew up poor but was lucky to have a hard work attitude and friends to help me get there.

I did not take your last comment bad whatsoever. Never crossed my mind. I was in complete agreement with no misunderstanding. I was just saying that if you thought I had ought to pay for the replacement I could afford it, but letting you know why I had not yet. I have the original Micro Magic. Is that the same as the Micro Magic Pro?

From the way you have explained it to me it sounds like it was a defective rod and I do not feel like you should have to pay for it but I do know some rod companies charge for rod shipping and I'm not sure if Duckett has changed their policy on S&H since my rod broke a little over a year ago. I do know it was before the company moved so it was a long time ago.

No, the Micro Magic is ducketts first released rod and they came out with a new version of it that took the place of the Micro Magic and it is called the Micro Magic Pro. Duckett understood that the Micro Magic had a few minor problems that anglers were complaining about and instead of letting that go by the way side they choose to fix those problems in the upgraded version, the new Micro Magic Pro. It won best fresh water rod at Icast 2014

I  like the feel of the rods, but I have a 7'3 mh that snapped while casting a 1/2oz spinnerbait about 6 inches down from the tip, took duckett almost a month to get another rod too me, and took a couple of days for them to email me back. not the greatest CS ive experienced, I went with another company and haven't looked back, just my two cents

I did not know that. That makes more since why they wanted $40 extra dollars for a new rod. I still think I should be grandfathered in, but it does make more since.

SenkoGuru, do you have a Micro Magic Pro? Would it be worth the $40 +S&H for the upgrade? By the way above your avatar you state flip a jig, stick a pig. Does this refer only to jig & pig rigging or do you bow hunt for pigs there in LA?

When was this? Did they make you pay S&H or other fees?

about 2 months ago, I just had to pay s&h which for me I think was about $25. Everything was fine in the end getting the rod, just took longer than I had hoped for

Yes, I do have a micro magic pro rod and it is a better rod than the regular micro magic but it is not a giant leap.

This is right from Duckett.

"Micro Magic Pro"

"Any issue you may have encountered with the Micro Magic line of rods have reportedly been addressed, tested and fixed with this new rod series without changing the action or performance. The Micro Magic Pro has a Carbon fiber scrim for added durability, high gauge ring-lock guides with braid-proof inserts, a double flanged tip, cut-proof EVA butt and more line-to-guide contact for better sensitivity."

This means the new pro has a double footed stripper guide, Uses carbon fiber scrim instead of glass scrim, new ring lock guides, eva butt cap instead of cork, a double flanged tip (no tip incert loss) and the guides are re-adjusted for better line slap. Does this make it a better rod than the old one, sure it does and I would say the $40.00 is worth it but that is something you will need to decide.

The flip a jig and stick a pig refers only to bass fishing. Where I am from a big bass 5 plus pounds is called a pig. I love flipping jigs here because most of my lakes are full of cypress tree's and jig's catch larger bass IMO. Just a catchy statement. I do bow hunt for whitetail deer but not hog's

How old was your rod?

I like all of the updates, except the EVA grips. How come they changed them from cork? I am not against EVA, but I like the way cork looks. Do yo prefer the EVA grips? I also bow hunt for deer, but not hogs. I am glad we have no hogs on our land.

I have two of the original Duckett MicroMagic rods (7'3" MH/F, and the 6'8" MH/F).  Both are really nice rods, and are a pleasure to fish with.  They are a little on the whippy side of MH rods that I own, and feel more like a M in my opinion.

Really like them a lot, and laugh when people call them "white carrot stix".

They left the reel seat part as cork but they changed the butt section to EVA foam because on some of the rod that butt section of cork would split and then fall off of the rod because the cork would dry out or get stepped on and split. the EVA foam will not do this so you no longer lose your butt section.

Oh, O.K. I like that then because when I put the rod butt down on the boat to unhook a fish it gets dented. I am going to try and contact Duckett again. I might have just got a bad CS rep that day.

Just contacted Duckett again and was told that they would only charge $20 shipping to replace it because it was a manufacturer defect. He was extremely helpful. I guess I caught someone on a bad day. Mike at DVT helped me fix my rod which was a great help, but I think I am going to have to accept this offer while I can.

Absolutely, that was my point about CS.. You never know with Boyd's Co... Get your rod replaced, before someone else changes the ruling yet again!!

For $20 there's no reason you shouldn't.
