WPCfishing Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I figured there would be some threads about them. I suppose many fellow bass anglers on here just aren't interested in them. Quote
Grantman83 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 There have been several threads regarding duckett rods. Usually they are in threads about budget priced rods in the 100-160 range. They do have a large following Quote
Surfcaster Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I looked long and hard at a Duckett Ghost spinning rod last Saturday. It was $100 and felt good, but I did not pull the trigger. It was peer pressure though. A couple of buddies I fish with/against in tournaments have the higher $ Ducketts and they really like them. Quote

They do have a large following Yeah they do! I have one and plan on having a couple more in the near future. They are very light and sensitive, I just wish they were full grip with a acs reel seat, then they would be perfect haha Some people claim they break easy, but mine has held up to some pretty hard hook sets so far. Matthew2000 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 White carrot sticks. That is all you need to know. 2 Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Not sure about the white carrot stick. Similar. I have both. I think the duckett is more durable. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 Duckett has a large following and makes a pretty nice rod. However for the price you have a lot of other very good choices. It's almost impossible to make a wrong choice in the $150-180 range. I'm not a fan of white rods, and super small micro guides. Not that either one is a bad thing it's just not for me. Also don't listen to anyone saying they're a white carrot stick. Very far from it to be honest. As with anything you'll have people that bash things they know nothing about. Sadly that's life these days. 2 Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 Sorry to hear that. Some people can't feel the difference between a Daiwa Jupiter and a G Loomis. That's the way the cookie crumbles. 3 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 Not poking fun at this rod manufacture but I don't know of anyone that owns one. I fish, I would guess, an average amount and just never hear of anyone even mentioning them. Quote
SenkoGuru Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 In this day and age there are a great deal of good rod's and reels to choose from, as has already been said by Rippin-Lips it is hard to go wrong in the $150 to $180 price range because so many are good. Having said that I am most likely the biggest Duckett fan on the forum's. I sold all of my Powell rod's to buy Duckett's. My total count of Duckett's are 10 White Ice, 3 Micro Magic, 3 Ghost, 1 Macro Magic, 1-Micro Magic Pro and 1-Terex. I simply LOVE those rod's. I have fish ton's of different rod's and only found one I like as much as my Duckett's and that is the Megabass Orochi line of rod's but they are double the price of Micro Magic's.The White Ice rod's fish above their price and have a 20 year warranty with great CS. They have been loaned out, fished hard, thrown in back of trucks, my son and his friends use them and out of all of that I broke one 7'3 heavy white ice on a hook set fishing a frog on 65# braided line. Duckett had me a new rod with a 3-day turn around and no questions ask. Two of my Ghost rod's turned Yellow and I talked to Duckett and was told they had a bad batch of clear coat on the first run and those two rods were replaced with free shipping even though their warranty was already out and on top of that I was given some free shirts for my trouble. Duckett's are tough to beat imo. Fantastic Bass rod'sDo not listen to any one saying they are a white carrot stick. they are far from it. 2 Quote
kingmotorboat Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 So is a duckett ghost a good rod to get to punch with? Quote
SenkoGuru Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 So is a duckett ghost a good rod to get to punch with? Yes, it is. I have the 7'6 Extra Heavy Ghost and it does a good job. I've used 1-oz weights with punching skirts, hook and bait without any problems at all. Nice tip and strong rod, I can set the hook and get the fish moving up an out with no problem controlling the fish. Quote
WPCfishing Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Good to hear there are guys out there fishing with them. They're all over eBay at reduded prices for last years models. I almost went for one but never had a chance to even handle one first so I passed. I bought a 7' Magnum custom speed stick for jigging. Would have been nice to compare it to the new micro magic. GetJigginWithIt Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Duckett are good rods. Not even close to white carrot sticks as they have been called. Completely different blank. Last year's models probably on sale because of the new micro magic pro that is out replacing the micro magic. 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 has anybody used their reels? The only people I hear of using them is the pros. Dean Rojas in particular. Quote
Boogey Man Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I have one Micro Magic, a 6'6" m/f. It's my all purpose rod for lighter lures. I love everything about this rod but I may be one of the few who hates the micro guides lol. I've tried the same reels on this rod and others with regular guides using 12lb test mono and honestly get more distance with the other rods. With the Duckett, my cast also tend to "hook" to one side on the cast. Plus with my eyesight getting worse with age, it's a trick stringing up those tiny guides, lol. I know I'm in the minority, but if I get another Duckett it would be the Macro Magic. Overall I think they are good rods for the money. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 I picked up two of the micro magic 6'9" MHF casting rods from a buddy of mine for pretty cheap and i am impressed. I usually fish St. Croix rods so the power difference is a little different as they feel more like something between a M & MH but so far so good. They are pretty light rods and i have been using them for chatter baits, spinnerbaits and smaller soft bodied swim baits with no complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if the need arises.... 1 Quote
Lacustrine Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 While the rod fished great I was not crazy about their customer service. At first they weren't very helpful at all, but eventually became slightly more helpful. I still had to fix the rod my self though because it was going to cost me $45 under warranty to get repaired or $60 to get replaced. Quote

Such as which rod was it and what was wrong with it that needed to be fixed? Thank you. Quote
Lacustrine Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I was fishing today and my handle on my Duckett began to twist where the reels misaligned with the eyes. It snapped back into place, but it was still loose and continued to inch its way around. What should I do to repair this? Lacustrine Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 One thing the did do though is when my rod tip was chipped they sent me a new one free of charge.I might have just called on a bad day, but I was not treated very good. Quote
Missourifishin Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I loved the feel of the ghost when I picked some of them up at bass pro. I still haven't pulled the trigger and bought one yet. But I probably will one of these days. Quote
SenkoGuru Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Lacustrine , I am sorry that happen to you. I'm not saying I do not believe you I was just wondering why they would not help you. that is why I ask for more info. I've had very good luck with Duckett CS but that doesn't mean that every one has. I'm sorry for your bad luck. Quote
