Rough Start So Far

Ive been out fishing the past couple days and up here the i have some males lurking around and a couple smaller ones on beds but i cant get them to take anything, ive tried chatterbait, spinnerbait, jerkbait, jigs, and various texas rigs( i did get one on a t-rigged fake fish in pearl) but im having a hard time, so any thing i should try? Im fishing from the bank about 2-8ft out on the edges of lilly pads where ive been seeing 99% of the fish

Im in a different part of the country but zoom lizards worked well for me on these kinds of bass. T-rigged weightless or with small splitshot to speed up the fall a bit.

You could also try a weightless wacky rig with the

Zoom lizard. Has been a good bed-fishing rig for me

over the past couple years.

Might try a small floating minnow like a Rebel . Try letting it sit  motionless until all the ripples disappear. Sometimes the bass cant stand that.

Go small and light. Weightless zoom finesse worms with a 2/0 EWG hook, they are heavy enough to make the bait have a senko-like wobble. Wacky rig trick worms, drop shot with a z-drop

My fishing buddy came up with a new one recently. A crappie sized crankbait in bubble gum color. He would crank it down a little then let it float up. He texted me pics of 2 over 4 lbs and lost a larger one.So I took a small Bomber and painted the thing with bubble gum color fingernail polish. Next time out, neither of us caught one on it. But it worked for a day on bedding females. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box and show them something they haven't seen yet. Tick them off.

I've been catching more and more of them each outing and the sizes are moving towards the 3 lb range so the males are likely coming closer to shore and scouting out beds.

Yer in my neck of the woods .. so you can throw anything you like but work them slow.  If you want volume throw smaller baits.

The water is still around 60 and cold and the fish are wary and lethargic and arent lookin to take the rod outa yer hands.. my strikes have been subtle and I've missed many bites so far but also brought many ashore.

This, and vary retrieves, with slow being the preferred, and remember let it fall on slack line, and watch the line closely. If they don't hit that, just Quit.

I tend to stay away from throwing wacky worms because everyone who fishes there throws them lol but im going out in an hour im definitely gonna give a white lizard a try and caught one last night on a white chatterbait
