How Big Was Your First Bass?

Was teaching some neighbor kids how to fish the other day, and one of the kids caught his first Bass, it was 11" long! he was so happy jumping up and down. it made me remember my first bass, it was only 7" inches, Good times though. So how big was your first bass? anyone catch a keeper size bass as there first? let me know in the comments

I can't remember anything that early. My parents said I started with the cane pole and worms so early it preceded my earliest memories. We had a lake house. I would nag my dad to stop and buy me bait and supplies on the way to the lake. If he had to go back and get it, I lost valuable fishing time. I would wake up and start walking the banks, fishing with a cane pole before they even got up. It's a wonder I didn't drown. I almost did twice as a kid. So I'm pretty sure my first bass would have been way back then.

 

I got a pic of my daughter's first fish as well as the entire catch. Two white perch and a crappie on the Barbie rod. Perhaps the proudest I've been besides the day she was baptized.

My first bass was caught when I was 12yo. It was 10" long. On a Heddon sonic copy. I purchased a assortment of fishing lures on the back page of a comic book for $5.95. It came with a yellow sonic with the black lightening strike on the side. It was still cold out springtime weather. It was around Easter time. This was in 1962.

I carry an assortment of heddon Sonics in my crankbait box to this day.

I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, there is no way I could remember my first bass which was 50 years ago. I do know it was a smallmouth but back then the only measuring we did was when it was close to the legal size of 12 inches. Anything bigger than 12 was put on the stringer.

I caught my first bass about 65 years ago, it's doubtful that I even knew it was a bass

Probably about 8 or 9 inches long.  I was probably 7 or 8 years old.

It was a bit over 3 years ago and everytime I tell people it tends to get bigger.  It's at about 14 lbs right now.  

 

All kidding aside it was a marginal keeper at best but was exciting enough to get me coming back for more.  For the record my first fish ever was a crappie which was bigger than my 1st bass.

The first bass I caught that I can recall was 1974 and I was 5.  We have a pond at my parents house and my father left his fishing pole with a Zebco 33 and black plastic worm propped against a tree.  Some friends came over and their youngest son said lets go fishing.  We took turns and on the  first 4 casts we each caught 2 bass apiece that weighed probably 1-2 lbs.  My father realized what was going on and came down and helped us get the fish off the hook.  Growing up with fishing poles and a pond beside our house I am sure there were earlier bass but this is the earliest I can remember.

I remember mine very well. I was in a canoe with my dad and brother on a large marsh known for its bass fishing. I remember seeing an angler in another boat catch a large bass and saw a blue plastic worm flash blue as they netted it. I caught my bass on a bobber/nightcrawler on a Zebco 202 outfit. I was about 8 or 9 years old. My bass, a largemouth, was exactly 12" long and I was enamored with it. We put it on a chain stringer and every few minutes I'd pull it up to ogle. And then, at one point, I pulled up on the chain and the chain had broken and the fish was gone. My dad thought a snapper had got it. I was crushed.

I grew up on the Jersey Shore and our fishing was mainly salt water. We did a bit of trout fishing and some panfish though. About 20 years ago when my son was 6 I started taking him fishing, we fished mostly for Bluegills, pickrel and Catfish. I thought I would like to try Bass fishing so I got some lures and did some research. I probably tried about 19 times and caught nothing. Finally, I decided that I had enough, if nothing on try 20 I would head out to greener pastures.

 

Now that I think about it, the day was perfect weather wise. I selected a small pond in town that I was assured had some bass. Looked for bait fish near a fall down, casted parallel to the bank and on my third cast landed my fist SMB. It was  a nice one, about 2 pounds. Before I left I caught 3 more. I retired the lure a few weeks ago.

 

As a small pond bank fisherman I thought I knew how this was done. Caught countless bass since. But I haven't fished at all for the last 10 years and restarted last August and using a boat, deeper water. At this point, I have no clue.

about 3/4s of a pound, but the fish after that (same day and bait) was a 2 1/2 pounder. Talk about a fun fight: enraged pre-spawn bass, just choked a lipless, and I'm fighting it on a spincast rod that could barely drag it on the bank. I thought it was around 4 pounds at the time .

Mine was last may and it has started an obsession. I have been fully addicted to bass fishing since that day. The fish was about a pound and I caught it on a purple power worm. I still have the worm. Thank god my roommate took me fishing that day. It changed my life as crazy as that sounds. And these forums have taught me everything that I know about bass fishing.

I remember where, and about when I caught it. Size??? It was a bass which seemed like a monster compared to the bluegills and other panfish I was catching, when in all reality, it was probably just a small 12" fish. I do remember the first big one I caught. Conesus lake, opening day of pike/walleye season in 1990 while drowning shiners under a bobber for pike. We had no scale, just a ruler, and it was over 20" long.

Favorite color is actually orange. The "blue" is my screen name is just to reflect my occupation

Caught it on a greenpumpkin power bait worm.

I had watched a youtube video the day before on how to Texas rig, got the right hooks and bait, and after 4-5 casts BAM!... caught my first LMB.   memorable moment to say the least
