bassinbrady03 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Im hooked on it. I think it is one of the realest fishing shows out there. My favorite is the Hard Merchandise. Do any of you guys like it. Quote
Matthew2000 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I like it for one episode but after an hour their accent gets annoying. And the constant fighting gets old. 1 Quote
EmersonFish Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I'm a sucker for any show based on fishing, even when they are painfully repetitive like 'Wicked Tuna.' The 'Hard Merchandise' guys are definitely the easiest to root for. Quote
MIbassin Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I'm a big fan of that show. Can't stand that Tyler kid on the Pin Wheel... Quote
Cgrinder Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Yeah, it's a fun show. I think they play up the drama a lot, but it's still likable. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 Having done my share of fishing for bluefin & yellowfin tuna, I find the needless chatter, pseudo-quarrels and drama a big turnoff. Then again, if you don't engage in Madison Ave hype, your ratings tumble and your show is cancelled. I get that, but I don't buy it (good for a laugh though). Roger 1 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted April 28, 2015 Super User Posted April 28, 2015 Got tired of the fighting and theatrics .... same as the one chopper show that was on TV with the family. Guess would rather watch a golf game or a bass tourney as there's less fighting. Would rather not watch a lot of TV as far as that goes.... 2 Quote
Catch 22 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 WTuna, good for a few shows ,but like all those reality shows,I`m bothered by the urgency to get something done,or they`re going to go broke ,or die ,or starve to death. The new one last night, river men or some thing like that ,implied that if the guy didn`t catch 200 pounds + of catties on that very day,he would not survive the winter=============give us a break! The shows set a poor mentality mind set for a society that is already over speeding. C22 Quote
stkbassn Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I really like the show. I do agree that some of the drama is played up but it's still fun to watch. I'm glad they don't get together and sing Kumbaya on each show...what fun would that be?! lol.... And I love to see those beasts on the deck of the boat, amazing fish. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 29, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2015 The drama is played up a little, but then again if everytime I hooked a fish it could be worth 10K it would be pretty dramatic to me. I watch it sometimes, better than a lot of shows on TV anymore. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 30, 2015 Super User Posted April 30, 2015 If it wasn't for the drama and story lines reality TV would be ancient history. There are shows I enjoy and others that don't captivate my interest, Wicked Tuna is ok. I could live without Moonshiners or ginseng hunters. Quote
Catch 22 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I had the pleasure of meeting one of the moonshiners at Daytona Bike Week this year. Really nice guy and very obliging to all that wanted pix with him.I`ll see if I can find mine. C22 Quote

I watch it sometimes, better than a lot of shows on TV anymore. Back in the 70s, sushi skyrocketed to stardom. When you returned to port in the evening, you'd generally be greeted by merchants on the dock who came from Japan. They would bid on every giant tuna that hit the gin pole at Hoffman's Landing in Manasquan, NJ. At that time, tuna was going about $10 / pound, I have no idea what it's worth today. Roger Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 1, 2015 Super User Posted May 1, 2015 Little more than 10 bucks a lb. http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/01/07/japan-worlds-most-expensive-fish-sold-for-1-8-million/ Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted May 1, 2015 Super User Posted May 1, 2015 When the reels change multiple times during the fight, it's hard for me to appreciate it Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 1, 2015 Super User Posted May 1, 2015 I wonder how much a plate of sushi costs at that restaurant. Roughly $3500 per lb on a near 500lb. fish, before it's cleaned and prepared. Quote
Catch 22 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Little more than 10 bucks a lb. http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/01/07/japan-worlds-most-expensive-fish-sold-for-1-8-million/ The market is known to pay absurdly high prices early on to gain the interest of fishermen around the world. Susie dinners in Japan can range form $200 to $400. The prices the buyers pay are the reason the we can`t get a decent purchase at our own markets for tuna. Quote
fisherrw Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 It's a pretty good show I've watched it a little Quote
Kevin22 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Its just like swamp people... Edited together footage to make it more dramatic. You think every tuna bites as the fish finder is beeping and on EVERY BITE the reel goes tick ..tick...tick tick.. Tick tick... Ticktickticktick WE GOT A FISH!!! Come on Then the reels change 3 or 4 times during a fight. Heck that fish that they needed to catch to make a profit that day could have been caught a week prior. Just like swamp people.. The last episode i watched, years ago, the boat changed 3 times during the fight. Went from the big jon to a long shaft mud motor boat, then to the boat from prior years, then back to the big boat. Was the last time i watched that bullhonky Quote
U.S.Ranger Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 As far as I'm concerned these new boats are nothing but a bunch of babies crying about the old captains. It's obvious by the fact that each one is after beating a specific boat that this is a set up by NatGeo, aND the constant crappie of these guys have it to easy and whatever has destroyed the entire show. I have watched every season, but this garbage reeks so bad I don't think I can continue to watch the show. Just another example of greed destroying something good. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted March 30, 2020 Super User Posted March 30, 2020 I’ll watch it. I don’t have a favorite in the “ glousta “ crowd. I root for Capt Shackleford ( I think) , who is one of the outer banks crowd, when he’s on there. Quote
haggard Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Aside from the original COPS back in the day I've always found the highly scripted and so-called "reality" shows anything but, and I gave up TV at least 10 years ago and don't miss it (I watch an unhealthy amount of youtube). That said, after a day of fishing, a good meal, an night by the fire and crawling back into the camper, there's nothing more enjoyable and entertaining than watching episodes of Wicked Tuna, Fargo series, and even some ridiculously bad movies. Reality is what happens when nobody's watching Quote
