Lazz Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Anyone do this? I have 7 rigs , 6 casters, 1 spinning, all with 10-65lb. braid. Honestly I've never uses anything other than braid. I don't necessarily have any issues but as I become more an more infatuated with fish year after year, it just kind of dawned on me the other day maybe be braid for everything isn't the best thing to do? What's your thoughts on this guy's? Quote
Super User Scott F Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 I use only braid. It works for me. I hate the stretch of other lines. Maybe it's not the perfect line for every situation but I don't need perfection. 2 Quote
LSUh20fowler Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I use braid on all rods except my crankbait rods. For cranking I use straight fluorocarbon. Most of my fishing is in grass / cypress lakes with a stain so braid works best for my most cases. I do fish one lake that is clear and for that I tie on a flouro leader to the braid. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 Braid is my favorite multipurpose line but I do use fluoro and Nanofil. Nano gets specific use for nightcrawlers and senkos. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 You can use one type of any line if you want. Used to be all mono. I like a mixture of lines. I do this mostly because I don't like leaders. Of all the lines out there braid is very versatile. Quote
Alpha Male Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I use braid a lot but not exclusively. out of 9 casting rods I have braid on 7. Four of those seven will have a leader if the waters clear. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 The only things I don't use with braid or braid with a leader are crankbaits, spooks, and big heavy football jigs fished deep. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 I use braid + leader on everything Me too, I like the way braid manages. Only 1 thing matters to me, put my lure where the fish are, most of the time I'll catch fish. Rods, reels, lines and lures are great talking points, it's all moot without finding the fish. 2 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 I use braid + leader on everything Yup Quote
Preytorien Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I have braid on everything, but many with a leader. The only exception is my crappie/ultralight rig....but I don't get that out more than a few times a year.....it has 6lb flouro on it. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 Braid for everything for me too, and sometimes a leader. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 I don't and would never use it for everything. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 I have braid on all my rigs including my crank bait set up. I rarely if ever use a leader. If i fished more walk the dog type baits i would probably switch to something different because the braid tends to get fouled up more quickly on the front trebles but since that isn't a technique i do all that often, I just manage it is at happens. Preytorien Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 gotta use 3 or 4 pound, so it's fun. Yea, I've thought about that, but I would inevitably end up hooking a 7 or 8 pound largemouth, break off, lose it, then throw everything in the water. So, it's more of a contingency plan I'd say. But yes, it'd certainly be more fun! Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I was braid on both spinning and casting until this year. I put fluoro on my jig/worm rod to see if what I've read is true - better sensitivity for bottom contact baits on slack line in deep water. I won't find that out until June while on vacation. Line manageability has been fine so far, but the stretch is going to take some getting used after using braid exclusively for the last couple years. Quote
KayakKid Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I don't put braid on all of my rods, but I do back all of them with braid which is something I would recomend. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 I don't and would never use it for everything. ^^^ That's where I'm at, too...but whatever works for you. -T9 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 The only reason I can see using one thing for everything is if you only have one setup. 2 Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I like braid with a leader on my spinning gear, but not on my baitcasters. I have trouble with long cast with braid, occasionally it just stops because it is on top of itself. I used a power pro 40 lb and still had that issue. Quote
