JKarbo214 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 What is your favorite swimbait head? I am looking for something to throw a Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper or Keitech Swimg Impact FAT on. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 I like Strike King redfish jig heads. A little cheaper are mirrorlure heads and Walmart ball heads work just fine. Quote

bassinyea Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I like the revenge swimbait heads and also use some of the picasso smartmouth heads. You can buy both of these in a bigger hook version incase you want to fish a larger size swimbait on a smaller weighted head. I fish the keitechs on lighter jigheads than I do most others just because they are really salt impregnated and have some good weight to them. 2 Quote
Nice_Bass Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 conquistador conquest bullet swimbait jig head. Best hook I have found on a jig head and extremely affordable. Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted April 27, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 27, 2015 Tried them one time and didn't like them. If I wanted a nose weight I just peg one, which gives many options to change the fall rate if needed. To me the best weight for a swim bait are keel weighted which gives a more natural fall if so desired. Mike Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 Take a look at the Freedom Tackle Hydra Hybrid Jig & Stealth Hybrid Jig. It's a very effective rig for many applications including soft swim baits. Allows an effective swim bait presentation in virtually any cover. This rig also will accept almost any hook the angler desires. This hasn't been used mainstream yet but the flexibility and weedless factor on this one has been killer for me. It is nice to be able to switch the hook to whatever size you need and these heads will let you pull your swimbait through the heaviest cover you can find. I use my hydra heads around standing timber with a 5 or 6 inch keitech. 1 Quote
Phildo Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 You cannot beat Slayer heads, where I fish stripers we use small swimbaits and a weedguard is a necessity. These heads have the best hooks of any I have used and pretty durable paint, although no paint can stand being smacked into rocks repeatedly. Some complain the hooks are too small but when you are catching 20lb stripers are 3" swimbaits you need a small, durable hook so they are perfect. I have heads that I have been nailing adult stripers on for over a year and they are as sharp as ever and no corrosion from the salt. Quote
Phildo Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Depending on depth, however, I fish largemouth with 4.8" keitechs and I have spent countless hours with various weighted offsets and jighead's. For the keitech specifically, when fishing low current and depths less than 10ft, you will get the most action using tungsten nail weights to "chikubi" rig it with an offset worm hook. The holes in the belly of Keitechs make this rigging simple and you cannot beat the increased wobble from the higher center of gravity. This was extreeemely effective night fishing pre-spawn with Black Shad color, with the nail weights you can crawl the bait as slow as humanly possibly and it just wobbles and kicks like crazy, hovering just above the bottom and ticking off structure. I mostly fish a shallow creek and with a weighted jighead its just too much bottom contact. Quote
