Ben Eipert Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I have used mono, fluoro, and braid. I was wondering which one everyone likes for micro guides. I normally use mono or fluorocarbon with braid as a backing. I am considering using braid with a leader but I cannot get a knot small enough since the guides I am using are a size 2. What about everyone else? Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted April 26, 2015 Super User Posted April 26, 2015 My micro's I use short leaders (2-3ft at most). Also only run 20-30lb braid and 12-15lb FC. So I use leaders that I don't have to worry about getting stuck in the guides from casting since they aren't long enough to get that far. Quote

Super User Jrob78 Posted April 26, 2015 Super User Posted April 26, 2015 I use several rods with size 2 guides. I use whatever line I feel needs to be used. I don't do leaders though. Quote
a1712 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I've never seen a 2mm guide. I thought 3's and 4's where tiny, dang that's small. Brian. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 Actually I'm mistaken. The guides I have are listed as a size 3 but have an ID of 2.05 MM. I thought they were size 2's but they are called 3's. Either way, they're really small. Quote
bigturtle Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I use all the lines, up to 20lb of each, with tip guides with ID of 3mm Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 27, 2015 Super User Posted April 27, 2015 One of my spinning rods is a Ducket MicroMagic, don't know what the guide sizes are. I use 40# superline and sometimes use a 20# flurocarbon leader of about 3'-4'. I have no issues with the Uni-Uni Knot with 6 turns on both knots and the tag ends cut flush with the knots. I use the fluorocarbon line for weight to make the braid sink for weighless presentations like over there <-------- Quote
Ben Eipert Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 I build my own rods and put them on their because it looked cool and they were light weight. I have used the uni to uni for braid and fluoro but I always got a backlash when casting. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 When designing a rod build, you match the guides to the line and connections, not vice-versa. A size 3 guide will pass any of the common lines used for bass fishing but my guess is that leader knots are a no go. All you can do is try. Quote
