Two Quick Questions About Elaztech

Hey guys so is it ok to leave an Elaztech bait on a hook for a while? I know other plastics will rust a hook, is that also a possibility with Elaztech?

 

Also I know you are not supposed to dip Elaztech in stuff like Spike it or JJ's, but can you spray scent on it?

Megastrike is safe to use, Mr. Bobby himself has stated that before, it won't hurt to have or leave them pre-rigged.. Just don't allow them to contact other plastics..

I think the thing with zmans baits is you're supposed to just leave them in the,bag until you want to use them. I don't think they will rust your hook, but they could react with the hook, jighead , or paint on the jigheads which could cause melting.

I havent had any problems leaving them on jigs/chatterbaits.. just dont mix with other plastics as stated.

I have seen posts where a zman rep personally said to just leave them in the bag and not on a hook or in a tackle box. They could melt otherwise.

As long as you dont mix them with other soft plastics you will be fine

They contain salt so yes they will rust a hook. I have used Megastrike on them and it worked fine. If you use any of their baits like the Turbo CrawZ where the legs get stuck together, putting some Megastrike on them will help prevent them from sticking together.

Do not use JJs or Spike-it on them as they will disintegrate, I'm not sure there is a dye made that won't effect these baits.

This^^^^  Salt rusts hooks, not the plastic. I use Procure on mine with no issues and at times use a spray to keep baits moist in their packs which do help keep them from sticking.  Didn't know Spike It would destroy the baits so I guess I won't be trying that idea out on anything I want to keep, but might be useful to check and see if it's true.

Modern day hooks might, might get a bit of rust after a looong time being embedded in a plastic bait, hooks may get a spot here, a spot there, it will not hurt modern day hooks! That rust, if left rigged long enough will transfer to a soft plastic.

Easily seen in white colored plastics. People also talk about leaving a hook in a fish & it will rust out in a few days, that's bogus too, perhaps it may in saltwater, but I don't see it happening in a few days. There are salts in freshwater as well, nitrogen run off from crops, lawns etc.. Urea nitro is widely used outdoors and is a prime suspect.

However diluted the "Salts" become, they are still present. Best chance for a salty hook rust out in or out of water would be a needlepoint tip..IMO
