hi,

im not much of a fishermen, but my father is. i stumbled on this forum looking for answers on the differences between the jdm/us version, 2013 vs new vs 2015 version of the metanium. my dad is turning 70 next Friday and i really want to get him this reel ive heard him talk about. im a bit confused as to the different offerings and hoping someone could help me out.

amazon has one listed as " shimano new metanium hg right japan import" and its only 319. on places like bass pro, the reel is 419.

from what i gathered, there are no differences between the jdm version and the us version. however i do see some place list the japan version as 2013, which i am assuming is the model year? or maybe an older model?

the particular add on amazon doesnt mention if its a 2013 or newer. how would i tell?

do you recommend i pass on the jdm model for 319 and get the us model? is there any warranty concerns with purchasing a jdm model and buying off amazon?

thanks for the help.

Is the 2015 version of the Metanium that you are looking at the DC (Digital Control) model?

I think the USDM 2013 Metanium, the one on Shimano's website, is the same as the JDM 2013 Metanium. The knobs may be different on the HG and the XG but I am not 100% sure about that. If you buy the JDM model, Shimano USA will not honor the warranty. Personally, I have bought plenty of reels from Japan and I couldn't care less about the warranty because the reeels are very reliable.

Check out Japan Lure Shop. They are very reputable and their prices are cheaper than Amazon and the shipping charges to Fl are around $15.00.

thanks for the reply. im only looking at the regular model. i dont know if he is interested in any sort of digital model (not much of an electronics guy).

a standard warranty from shimano is only 1 year anyway, correct?

if there is a problem after a year, is the jdm model serviceable by any regular shimano repair center?

i would like to order for japanlureshop as i see it is cheaper, but i need it before next friday. i dont see how that would be possible coming from japan to the states.

Shipping from Japan is very fast! My last order with JLS did not arrive arrive fast at all and I do not know why. But, I and many others on this site have come to expect very fast shipping from JDM vendors. If you buy from JLS, make sure that you register because they will send you a Japan EMS Tracking #. I can't guarantee you that your reel will be here on time but the way that is usually works for me is, I place an order right now, hopefully it will be at my door on Thursday or Friday morning. These reels are also never delivered at the same time as my regular mail. They come earlier in the morning and usually before lunch. When I have my reels serviced, I use DVT, a Bass Resource Sponsor.

It is very possible if you order tonight or Saturday. After you place your order they will give you tracking info . It comes EMS which is USPS delivery in the states . It will require you sign upon delivery.
