Best Weedless Method (Plastic Baid) For Most Hookups?

Still searching for something besides a spinnerbait my gf can cast and catch fish in water that has cover (trees, snags, stumps, grass, weeds, moss). Some of these plastics can be swam back to the boat and catch some fish but it has to be weedless but she does not yet get setting the hook. What do you think is the best weedless method/rig that is NOT Texas rig? Exposed hook would be best for hookups but it's impossible on our water.

 

I have not used many weedless setups other than Texas rigged plastics. I could buy hooks with the wire or mono loop that goes over the hook or there are jigheads with a couple of stout plastic stickup thingies that help deflect some stuff. I fear that moss would get caught on that a lot but I guess we'd have to live with it if it caught fish.

She would be better off learning to set a hook. That way you could put on a Senko and she would catch fish. She gets bit, point the rod at the bait, reel in some slack and jerk back; pretty easy. Explain to her why she is doing these steps though. It helps the whole process.

How bout a power worm swimmer. And just teach her how to set a hook.

Use the Texposed hook insertion method for soft plastics. You can do any bait that way.

I think your on the right track with the weedless hooks and wire guards. They work pretty good .

Top water frogs are really good for beginners, because they can really see what the lure is doing, they are super weedless, and they're really fun.  Put 20-50lb braid on whatever she is using and cinch the drag down as far as itr goes (even if it's a lighter spinning or Zebco 33).  I used to catch huge redfish and trout with a mini-spin combo, so don't worry if the combo can take it.  And the thing about not setting hooks, first time a decent bass crashes that frog she'll catch on pretty quick.

agreed on teaching her to set the hook.   do it in ur yard w/o the excitement of a fish involved.

have her let out 50ft of line.  wrap it around ur hand and tap on it with a pencil.  have her go thru the motion of dropping her rod from 10 oclock to 7 oclock, reeling up the slack until she feels the line taunt w/ you on the other end, and setting the hook/loading the rod with some elbow grease.

This style is my defacto hook for wacky rig weedless not weed free mind you anything can get snagged. They practically hook themselves.

Other brand like Gamakatsu weedless hook has a stouter wire dont think they have a red hook.

I see it has a "2" on it -- do you know is that a #2 hook or 2/0? They make both.

 

Those barbs on the shank would pick up moss. I guess I could squeeze them down with pliers.

HEY! I just got in the Mann's Reel'N Shad bait, which has a weedless hook! This might work.

A Johnson silver minnow, with trailer, works really good in the kind of water you described.  Trying to learn to not jerk back when a fish blows up on it is hard.  It is a natural reaction.  Hope she catch on to dipping the rod tip to the fish and then set the hook hard enough to cross its eyes.  A heavy rod with braid line is necessary for that kind of fishing.  Oh, by the way keep the hooks on the spoon sharp.
