Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 3, 2008 Super User Posted December 3, 2008 Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
BossierBassHunter Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 If you added a little red on the gills of that King Shad it would be absolutely perfect. Even without it it looks amazing. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 3, 2008 Super User Posted December 3, 2008 Man, those are beautiful! 8-) Quote

Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 3, 2008 Super User Posted December 3, 2008 i dont particularly like the lateral stripe on the baby bass, but the painting is excellent! maybe try to make the lateral stripe look a bit more realistic on the next ones? Quote
MNBassguy Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Very nice, I wish I could do that.Tried it!got frustrated!sold it! Quote

You don't like that? I think it looks sweet. I like how it looks beaten up. Looks like a bigger fish has been munching on it a bit. Quote
bhorlings Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Awesome job! I'd take'm any day of the week! Keep it up! Quote

You're so quick to criticize someone's work Dave. Are you saying his bait needs to look more realistic, like yours? Thad those baits rock. The splotchly lateral line look is a really really tough one for me. Havent come up with a baby bass pattern I like yet. Yours look great. Quote
IDbasser Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Those things rock!! I wish I could paint like that. Quote
Thad Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Thanks guys. When I read Dave's post I was a little bit surprised. It took me a long time to cut out a stencil for that and I thought it looked pretty decent. I guess I could put them closer together and add more but I thought it looked pretty good, especially moving in the water. By the way, I had been looking for some good stencil material and found the plastic that is used to cover the lure in their packaging is perfect for me. Quote

I actually think that many lure manufacturers overdo the black in the lateral stripe. A broken up line or just a solid stripe of a darker green is all that is required. If I'm going to look for a quality color/paintjob then I look at mattlures baits as a standard. And Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 Nice paint job dude. The lateral line looks great IMO. LOL at Fourbizz!! ;D Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 didn't mean to stir up controversy. i like baits that are very realisitic, and look just like the real thing. i have never seen a bass with such a broken and defined lateral line. i never criticized his baits, i just said what i thought about them and gave a suggestion. i also never said that my baby bass was better and/or more realisitc. they are painted very well though, good transitions between colors, smooth topcoat, etc. etc. i just dont like the pattern, thats all. seriously Thad, nice work, didn't mean to be negative at all. whittler Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Without doubt one of the best bass patterns I have seen. I think it is one of the most difficult patterns to paint well and you nailed it. Quote

Dave, check this girl out, caught in VERY clear, shallow water. I suspect water clarity of the waters you fish has plenty to do with your idea of realistic. Btw, both of you guys are doing great work with your baits. I'm not nearly artistically inlined to even attempt such a feat. Quote
