madweazl Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Hit Hunting Run with a buddy today and fished for about eight hours without catching any bass. Buddy caught a pickerel but I didnt get a darn thing. Was pretty windy and we had a really tough time keeping the rental boat in an area that we could fish.Gonna try to hit Briery tomorrow morning; hopefully it goes better. Edit: forgot to mention that the water was quite clear today. Visibility was about five feet. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 24, 2015 Super User Posted April 24, 2015 After the wind forecast I saw early this morning, I decided not to go. The air temp this morning being about 30 degrees lower than the water temp, was no benefit either. 1 Quote
madweazl Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Yea, that sucked but it was still nice to get out on the water and take in all that is nature. 1 Quote
madweazl Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Anyone know the hours of the boat rental down there by chance? Quote
madweazl Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 They open at 6am if anyone else was interested. Didnt have a whole lot of luck yesterday, ended up with two small largemouths and a pickerel for the day. Didnt get my hook set on another that wrapped around some reeds (or whatever the heck it is that litters the shoreline there) prior to his escape and had a couple others that went after a sexy frog but didnt get hooked. Fun day as always though. Beds all over the place that have been vacated. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 11, 2015 Super User Posted May 11, 2015 I was there Friday. Caught a couple of bass on beds. Did not catch any large ones. Did have a total of 63 bass though. A couple of pickerel too. On the way back to the ramp, I saw a large area with spawning bluegills on Side Imaging. I put on a 1/16 oz. Roadrunner and caught a couple dozen larger than hand size. Super User Choporoz Posted June 1, 2015 Super User Posted June 1, 2015 Worked the lake pretty hard on Saturday. Out at 6:30 and in after 4:30PM. My worst day ever on there. Exactly two bass. Neither big enough to take out the scale. I found three different big schools (15-30) of one pounders in 1-3 FOW, but no takers. Not sure what was going on there. Didn't look to be spawning, but just milling about and 'playing'. Crazy thing was that I was marking nothing on fishfinder all day. One exception, I got a bunch of pings at 24' in 26 FOW. Dropped anchor and a drop shot. Immediately got excited that I figured things out, but over 60 min later on and around that spot without another bite. I've not caught any hawgs there, but I've never had a problem pulling in short bass from there before. Quote
shirtless & cooking bacon Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Im from Culpeper and get tired of fishing the small waters in town. I have never caught but 1 largemouth less than 1 lb. Everything else has been smallmouths. Does Hunting Run provide good bank fishing access? I dont have a boat so I need places where I can fish from shore. I really want to catch a couple good size ones before I move to South Carolina. Any other places to try? Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted June 6, 2015 Super User Posted June 6, 2015 Orange and Hunting Run both have boats to rent Quote
