vp2 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 The pre-spawn is underway around me and im wondering during pre-pawn does time of day matter? Early morning and evening fishing still the way to go? I mainly bank fish and I always feel like if im not out fishing by 7:30am its not worth going out? Im pretty new to fishing so im not really sure how important time of day is. 1 Quote

Now most people say that they bite better during the mid-afternoon. I find this statement to be false. I catch fish all day long. I actually find that fish will slow down during the middle of the day, but when I do hook into one it will be a big one. If the water temps are mid 50's, the fish will be up and cruising the banks... once you hit that 60 mark the fish will be going crazy and feeding up for the spawn.. Make sure to always have a rattle trap, jig and chatterbait/spinnerbait tied on. I hope this helps you out! 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 22, 2015 Super User Posted April 22, 2015 When the water temps are less than 50 degrees, later in the afternoon seems better for me. Warmer than 50 or so, it seems to start earlier and end a little later. Even into the scary dark time . . . A-Jay Quote

vp2 Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 Gotcha! Zach Nute yup, ive been throwing a spinner and 7'' power worm and been nailing them in the evening. Water temp is 57+ right now. Thanks for all the help. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted April 22, 2015 Super User Posted April 22, 2015 Whenever the water temperatures are low (as with pre spawn fishing), the action usually heats up with the air/water temperature as well. At 7 AM, the water might only be 52*, but come noon, the water could be up to 57*. Quote
wuchr20 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I like to fish the pre spawn depending on the temperature, not the time of day. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 23, 2015 Super User Posted April 23, 2015 Best time of day during the pre-spawn? Just before I get there, and soon after I'm gone Roger 5 Quote

Super User Scott F Posted April 24, 2015 Super User Posted April 24, 2015 I spend a two week vacation every year prespawn fishing everyday from 7am to 1 and then 3 to 9. We can always count on the best numbers from 9 to 1 in the morning. The morning bite gets better as the day progress' and the evening bite is never as good as the morning. Quote
