For Tatula owners , what are your thoughts & experiences to date of the Tatula T-Wing level wind system ? Quote
Tim Kelly Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Don't over think it! They're perfectly good reels and whether the t wing makes a difference to casting is kind of irrelevant. Unless you find them impossibly too large in your hand, as some people claim to, it is just a good standard baitcaster on a par with a curado. Getting a standard model for around $100 on the bay is just a bargain for a good reel. Try one. Quote

I din't have a Tatula, and after fishing with one for about 30 minutes, I won't be buying one. Don't care for the hollow, geary feel of the thing. As far as the T-wing systems goes, I'd call it more gimmick than innovation. On par with their twitchin bar thing from a few years back. Just another old guy's opinion, if you will. stkbassn Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I see that my Tatula has it, that's about all I notice. I don't really see anything to love or hate about it. I think it's a sweet reel. I'm super impressed with it. It's the first Daiwa I've owned and loved but I've never had any higher end Daiwa reels so this is probably the reason I've not been a Daiwa fan all these years. The Tatula might be my gateway reel into the higher end Daiwa's but my wallet also has to be up to the task and right now it just isn't Still saving for that boat Quote

Ive had 3 total and enjoyed them all. I've heard the same things about the ss sv from people though too. I think mine feels fine and I know you like yours. Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I bought one after test casting a customer's reel. I'll use it for chuck and wind applications. Some guys don't like flipping with it because the line comes out of the middle slot. I'm not sure it would hurt anything because it should slide back when you set the hook begin the retrieve. The one I tested had 20# braid on it and it fluttered across the slot making some noise. Not a big deal to me but intolerable to others. The reel casts well but no better than other Daiwas I've seen. The T wing is a take it or leave it gimmicky feature imo. At the $100 price you can find them they're not a bad reel. Quote

My opinion only really matters to me. Your opinion, based on your experiences, matters to you a lot more than mine. Rightfully so. As long as we don't feel we have to get in a whizzing contest about it, it's all good. There are too many people online ready to go to war over such silly stuff. It's only fishing. You make a valid point when you note that I've only had one Tatula in my hands. It could have had something wrong with it, or had been improperly cleaned and lubed. In fact, considering who I borrowed it from, that would be a distinct possibility, now that I think about it. I thought the reel was solid; just felt strange to me. I don't get that feeling from the SS SV. 2 Quote

I must say its a nice reel for the money. I wouldn't say it's absolutely amazing, but it works well for its use. So far, I haven't bought into the whole extra casting distance from the T wing. I've been using mine for squarebills and lipless cranks. Quote

Fishing gunk and frogs left me constantly clearing my line. Also, leaders would constantly catch.. Not saying it doesn't work, just isn't my cup of tea 1 Quote

The TT breakdown showed a slight variation in thickness of the actual tws. How it works is still the same though. Quote
