BIG M Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Here are a few more of the little round body. It's now my fav round bait. Quote
TrippyJai Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 why does some crankbaits have a black dot and some doesn't? what is it suppose to be or do? Quote
zbass Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I have heard it called the "kill dot". It is suposed to give the fish something to aim at. There have been studies showing that a bass will ignore a bait without one. I have caught fish on baits without one, but a whole lot more fish with one. Try an experiment. Throw a bait without one and then out one on it with a Sharpie. I did that and found some interesting results. Lets just say almost all of my baits have one in one color or another. P.S. Nice baits Big M!! Quote
Bass Dude Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Did you carve those too or add the paint job?? Either way great body and paint Quote
BIG M Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 Bass Dude, those baits are handcarved and painted by me. The carving is my fav. part of the build. Quote
Bass Dude Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Awesome job . Do you have any problems with getting them to run true? Quote
detroit1 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Very nice as always, BIG M. You say little- 1/4 oz.? Smaller? Let us know... Quote
BIG M Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 The baits are 2 inches long x 3/4 inch tall and weigh a little over 1/4oz. Depth is 4-5 feet depending on line size and for round bodies have a tight wiggle. Quote
cootertom Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Nice baits. How close to size and action are they to the Rapala Fat Raps? Quote
NEKvt Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 All very nice. Like that second one down a lot. Quote
BIG M Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Cooter, can't compare to the fat Dt as I've never looked at one. I have not fished with a store bought crank in nearly 5yrs. Quote
cootertom Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 The Fat Rap is a old balsa wood crank that looks a lot like the one you are making. I'm not sure it is in production any more but is one of the best factory made cranks I've fished with. I always check out the old lures around the flea markets for the older ones. Repaint and new hooks and their set to go. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Ill have to put some pics on here with some fish i caught on Big Mcranks not excatlly the fish i looking for but hproof his cranks are top notch. (plus we have had 35 degree water here for the past 4 weeks. Nice job as always Marty Quote
