Haven't posted on the forums in a while, not much to talk about during the winter in Connecticut, however I feel the need to share my experiences this evening.

got out of work at at 5 and instead of loading my truck and heading down to one of the larger reservoirs with all of my rods and big tackle bag, in search of a ten pound fish via swimbaits, jerkbaits, and other more advanced techniques, I decided for a simpler evening.

I left all my my rods and tackle at home except for my 7ft medium spinning rod, some 1/8 and 1/16 ounce shakey head jigs and a bag of my favorite worms, and headed down to the pond behind my neighbors property.

It may sound weird but I can't tell you how relaxing and nostalgic it is to spend the evening at a small pond with nothing but green pumpkin worms. ended up pulling four 2-3 pound fish out in just over an hour. I may just be a really weird dude but it was pretty refreshing.

Sometimes fishing is just about relaxing and enjoying the simple things.

I don't know about weird, but I think it would be pretty sad if one couldn't possibly enjoy fishing without all the 'stuff'.

Yep. Fishing can help your mental health, especially if you leave all of your baggage at the SUV or truck door as you walk to your pond or launch your boat.

Last week I had very harsh arguments with two insurance agents and their underwriters. I finally persuaded them to see the problem my way and I will find out today if all is OK.

Then made a command decision for two of my clients to change insurance agents as the current ones are proving to be worthless in a crisis.

Fished Lake Chesdin from 6:00 to 3:30 on Saturday. Only got two bites all day. But it was one of the most relaxing and fun days on the water I have had in a long time.

No telephone calls. No arguments. Just a beautiful day to be on the water with the birds and bees, and two fish.

So for anyone who is stressed out, take C0lt's advice and go fishing and leave your problems at the car door.

I like to fish the same way.I will stop off and shore fish on the way to work and again on the way home.I have multiple rods rigged in my truck but my favorite technique is to grab my jig rod and slowly crawl it along the bottom and pausing it and shaking it.I have become addicted to the feel of the jig slowly crawling along bottom and feeling it make contact with structure and such on the bottom and knowing any second i might feel that exciting tap.I have been ridiculed by some of my other power fishing friends because of how ridiculously slow i like to work a jig at times, for me that slow crawl is like meditation. I don't want to come across as bragging, but i have become so good at this technique that i will out fish most of my power fishing friends and most bobber fisherman i encounter.

Yesterday I went out to the pond. I used to be a finesse fisherman and would throw nothing but small worms. I got a baitcaster last fall and have now started to throw heavier stuff. Well, for the first time since probably late last summer, I got onto a really good senko bite. I'd forgotten how well a 2 1/2 pound bass can fight on a spinning rod. Lots of fun.

Regardless of where you're fishing or what technique you're using, if your fishing doesn't feel like that Every Time you go out  -  You're going it wrong.

Chillax.

I have found a 5 minute nap can make the difference between having a great outing or having a crabby and miserable one...Lol.

thanks for all the replies guys.

Don\'t get me wrong, anytime im spending time in nature and out near the water doing my thing is relaxing for me, thats why I do it. I just find that when I go down to the pond with just my spinner and worms my level of relaxation moves closer to a feeling of serenity, as in "wow, this is just too good to be true." Im still relaxed when Im at the reservoir throwing a big swimbait out, I just feel like theres a little bit more to think about.

Totally agree colt. I went to my pond I go to friday. Fished it, caught a few, but before I left I just sat down for a few drinking a Gatorade and taking everything in. Thinking wow this is really great. Out here by myself no calls or texts. Just taking nature and all of its beauty in. Thinking im very blessed. You are not weird by any means. As stated great just to relax and take it all in.

When you are standing aside a pond listening to the frogs converse, the dragonfly's flit about, and the bluegill smacking bugs and you can almost understand what is being said, THEN you know you have arrived.
