I've been getting slightly sore shoulder muscles after I go fishing.   It's usually from kayak fishing for a few hours of paddling and making so many casts.

I'm wondering if any of you take any pills or something to lower the discomfort?  I recently discovered Aleve pills.  When my shoulder is really sore I take one pill and in about 30 minutes or 1 hour later the discomfort goes away.

So what do you all do when you get sore muscles?

Fish oils, flax seed are simple to take and will help some. Contrast baths help a ton. 15 minutes ice bath, or just cold water, drain it and then do hot water. Epsom salt in the hot water helps also. Exercise will help get blood to the area too.

This is what I take and do daily, works wonders for me and my training.

1 Ibuprofen + 1 Aleve.

The Ibuprofen gets to the pain quicker

than the Aleve, but the Aleve makes it

last longer...

Aleve is good.  I take two to start and then one every twelve hours.

Stretch before and after a day on the water and your issue will probably go away.

I find that after the boat and truck are put away, a good alcohol rub is very helpful......applied internally.

Well, having broken the 70 yo mark, you can probably guess that these muscles aren't what they use to be! My daughter has several degrees and runs a women's health business. When I complained about pain after fishing, she sent me a tube of Dr. King's Advanced Arnica cream. It's a homeopathic cream that you just rub into your shoulders, lower back and knees, when the need arises. Gotta tell ya folks, this stuff WORKS! Regardless of how achy I get after a day on the water, this cream helps relieve most aches & pains very quickly.

I'd stay away from any kind of regular Ibuprofen use, or Aleve. Yeah, they work, but with regular use, you are putting your liver in jeopardy. Just ask your Doctor.

One 60 minute massage every week. Sure you can afford it. $40 each if you go each week.

All those pain killers are doing a number on your liver.
