So I just downloaded the Navionics app on my iPhone for $9.99 and let me tell us it's worth every penny. The topography maps are amazing and there is even some ways to share Waypoints and small notes for them. It is really nice to do some research on your phone or iPad. I highly recommend!

Which app specifically are you using? I have the app where you can use your iPad with your hds touch unit but I can't find any mapping app from avionics for 9.99. thanks

I have used it too its an awesome app.  If you run lowrance try linking it with the go free and the sonarcharts live will be activated!

I use the boating app on my iphone 5. I have a Lowrance 5x HDI. Can you tell me how can I link them?

You can't, you need a HDS Gen 2 or Gen 2 Touch and Go Free accessory to do that.

I have it on my phone as well.  I love how I can route my trips, record waypoints etc.

I also bought the "fishing mode" and now I am able to highlight certain depths to help target my fishing.  The only limitation is my battery on my phone.

Is it a stand alone app that doesn't require additional Lowrance gear?  Some thing I could use to research my local lakes structure?

Yes the Go Boating app is a separate app that doesn't require anything to use...  Wayne is right that only gen 2 with go free or the new Gen 3 with built in wifi will work with the app.

I love it and can not wait to get out and use it on the water. I will be heading out this weekend to try it on the water for the first time

If you have a wifi unit or the vexilar sonar box try the sonarcharts live!  It is an awesome feature that will update the chart instantly in the app or in some cases start creating a contour on lakes that are previously uncharted.

I've been using this app for years and just recently paid extra to use the sonar charts and it's a nice upgrade.  I'd like to chart some of the smaller bodies of water I fish and this sounds like a cool feature.  If any of you guys use this this app should check out the sonar chart option.  This is the difference for me:

Touch the screen location where you want to save. When the + comes up with the ?, touch the ?. Choose Add to Favorites. You can edit the name and Set at Current GPS Position or ADD if you have the + away from your position.

If you like the app and want the sonarcharts for you gps and own another chart chip you can use other brands like C MAP, Insight genesis, etc to unlock the update chip saving you 100 bucks.

Does this give contour lines for every lake? Could someone tell me if it does for cave run lake in kentucky?
