Been around a bit, guess it is time to get roasted for the first time.

While I have an average fishing budget it isn't unlimited and I choose my purchases each year carefully. That being said if I plunk down the big bucks on one of these are they that much better than other baits, or not enough for someone with a more limited budget to justify.

They are a great bait no doubt.  I have 7 of them I think.  Whether or not you want to spend that much on a lure is a choice you will have to make.  I will tell you though that of the 7 I have, I haven't lost a single one of them in all the times I have fished them which is a lot.  Jerkbaits are more open water type baits so really the only way to lose them is for your line to break.  The few times I did get hung up on a log or stick I have easily been able to get it back with my lure retriever.

I dont mind paying higher prices for jerkbaits or topwater baits of good quality because you rarely if at all ever lose them.  Deep crankbaits, jigs, spoons and such are a different story and that is why I dont buy expensive lures of that sort.

IMO, no they aren't. They're too fragile and there's too many great jerkbaits out there that cost a fraction of the price. I have no problem dropping money on a bait, so that's not the issue, I do have issue with a $25 bait that will fall apart for no apparent reason though.

I have heard a lot of people saying that their 110s have had bills break off, fall apart, etc.  I must just be lucky I guess.  Only problem I have had is with the metallic finishes the paint flaking off but I mostly attributed that to fish crushing the bait.

I have only lost one jerkbait that I can remember in all my time of fishing them and that was a year ago.  It was a lucky craft flash pointer.  Caught a fish and unhooked it without realizing the line had wrapped around my rod tip.  Jumped up real quick to fire the next cast, line snapped, lure went flying into the water.  I had changed hooks to make the bait slowly sink so as soon as it hit the water it was GONE.

The fact that you are asking the question suggests that they are not worth it for you. Those are the kind of baits that are made for people who can afford to lose money, and tons of it, everytime they go fishing.

What you are paying for isnt only the action. You are also paying a ton for the Megabass name, that killer paintjob, and the "Made in Japan".

Oh and no, vision110s are not fragile. You dont slap wooden baits onto the surface right? You dont fish the vision110 around cover. Simple.

Rick Clunn has a similar model out for about $8.00 and Academy Sports has a similar model out for about $5.00 .

Will the Academy Sports versison suspend or behave exactly like a 110 ? Perhaps not , but in a faster cadence jerk suitable for Spring conditions - you can do very well .

The Megabass Ito Vision 110 is probably my favorite lure. I have been collecting

a couple every year for a long time. I have fished a few hard for many years, but

most of my collection has only been wet once. The 110 is a work of art and an

effective lure, but I do just as well with Lucky Craft, McStick, Rapala X-Rap and

Smithwick Perfect 10 Rogue.

If they're worth it to you, they're worth it.

I usually buy one or two at a time so the sting isn't too bad anyways.

I have a few of them and in my opinion they are an enthusiast bait, I would never suggest them for someone just learning about jerkbaits. I have the regular Vision 110 and the 110 hi-float and I grabbed the high float one time during the early spring/late winter and I can tell you it was the only floating jerkbait I ever caught fish on in cold water. Right now I'd say that if you want a bait that is going to catch fish, you don't need to spend that much money, the RC STX has a similar action, it was copied almost exact and even has the same tight action, the difference is the roll on the 110 is a little more pronounced but that is it. I messed with a lot of jerkbaits and 1 expensive jerkbait I believe you should get is a Lucky Craft Pointer 100 or 78, the reason is they suspend great at a wider range of temperatures than other baits, some baits suspend better in warmer water and other do better in colod water but the Lucky Craft is really good in the 42 to 52 degree range. Now, if you have to ask yourself if the Megabass Vision 110 is worth the money then the answer, for you, is no, because you are looking at it as another lure while a lot of anglers look at it as a functional piece of art with the Japanese mystique and that alone makes it worth the price to some. Don't get me wrong, they work, I purchased mine when I was fishing for smallmouth with a friend and he was catching 4 to my one on a Vision 110, that was all I needed to see and it happens which is why they have such a good reputation. They are fragile, the same guy who showed me how effective they can be also showed me how fragile as he just nicked a rock and broke the bill, so no banging into cover with it for sure. The last thing is about the fish catching, I believe you should have a few different brands because I have had my hat handed to me on a 110 but I also had days where my Smithwick super rogue was outfishing the 110 by a wide margin, and it is because every brand of jerkbait works, they just use different triggering qualities, so get an assortment and if you get a few bucks you can part with, grab a 110 and try it out and make the decision on whether to get more or leave it at 1 but they are a good bait, it just comes down to how much you value form in addition to function.

They're great lures and they certainly have great action. My only gripe with most Megabass jerkbaits (Vision 110's and the Flap Slaps) is the thin wire hooks that come on them. I've bent quite a few of them out and always finding myself replacing them. Don't get me wrong, they're a sharp hook, but they do bend easily.

I think it depends on how often you fish with jerkbaits...If it's something you do frequently you might find them to be worth the cost.  If it's something you rarely do, you'll probably be happier spending your money on the stuff you throw more often.

As to the durability claims, I've been using them for several years now and have never broken one.  It does happen...but everyone I know personally that has broken one did so by banging it off rocks or something else hard.  I've also heard multiple times that MegaBass will replace them for you if you mail it in.

I like them, use them, and have success with them.  To me they are money well spent.

They're a great bait, and defiantly worth the $25. On the downside the bills on them are fragile. But if you're in the market to get expensive jerkbaits I'd defiantly recommend looking at Pointers as well.

Thanks for the replies. Jerkbait fishing has never been a big priority for me until last fall/winter when an x rap was all I could land fish on. This told me I should start to utilize this more often, especially early and late season.

I have a few xraps, shadow raps, husky jerks, rouges, and the KVD jerkbait I will mess around with here early season, and then maybe pick up one of these. Some comments do steer me away though just because I buy lures to fish, not collect. Same goes in my golf game, payed more for great import sticks because they were flat out better than the other available options. Not against paying more, the value just needs to be there to justify the purchase.

The reason for the thin wire hooks is because of how they were designed to be used, we here in America use them wrong. The same thing for the Luck-E-Strike RC STX, they use a fine wire VMC hook but the 110 was made to be fished on a spinning rod with 6lb line, the RC STX was made to be an almost exact copy so it utilized the same type of hook. Most of us, including myself, use 10lb or 12lb line with a casting rod so we usually apply more pressure to the fish than what the bait was designed for and that is why we bend the hooks. I emailed them and asked why they made the bait with the thin wire hooks and that is what they told me, which is basically we use too heavy tackle when fishing that lure.

I've never used them my lucky crafts suit me fine.

I have 2 and I have caught a lot of nice fish on them.  great action and flash.   I did break the bill on one and I didnt notice until later.  I had wrapped a suspend strap around the front hook to get it to suspend nose down.  I have still been catching fish with it just doesnt run as deep.  This spring I have been fishing it over grass with some luck.

Good ole spellcheck. Another excellent choice for jerkbaits, especially fishing for Smallmouth is the Koppers Livetarget Smallmouth and Largemouth, my personal best Smallmouth was on the Livetarget Smallmouth Jerkbait, also my avatar pic

The lucky craft 100 is a really great jerk bait too
