ChrisWi Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Looking at trying one of the two As a dropshot rod, I really like the color and handle on the Gl2, but as people say, they're kinda heavy? The E6X looks nice, but is it a better rod than the Gl2? Anyone use both That can help me out? Quote
j bab Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I've used a gl2 cranking rod and I've been quite happy with it. 7' medium moderate, for lipless and small cranks. It's super super limber, but that has allowed me to stick a couple decent fish without straightening those thin strike king hooks. Problem is, my buddy shut mine in the car door today! He's going to replace it, should I get him to buy me a replacement gl2 or an e6x? They both have the same exact action options... Wonder if anyone here has used both yet, as I still haven't thrown an e6x Quote

That's the cheapest way to go. No shipping costs either. 2 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted May 1, 2016 Super User Posted May 1, 2016 Don't mean to be negative about any other posts, but I would take the E6X over the GL2's all day. I had a GL2 j&w rod and didn't like it at all. That said, I have never used an E6X. I've only handled them in the store. I like the way they feel. I nearly bought one but talked myself out of it. I have "WAY" too many Loomis rods as it is. In fact, too many rods period. Hootie 1 Quote

Have your friend buy you the E6x since he broke your rod and then take $75 of your own and get the GL2 replaced. That's a win-win! 1 Quote
Airman4754 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 The reaction specific GL2 rods are good. I have the spinnerbait rod and love it. However in that price range I think you can do a lot better for a bottom contact rod. Loomis starts getting sensitive around the IMX line and up. I've heard first hand from two people that the new Megabass Levante spinning rods are REALLY good for their price and it will be the same as the two Loomis options you are considering. I'm sure others can chime in on really good alternatives in that price range. Not trying to bash Loomis, I've been fishing those and Lamiglas since I was old enough to hold a rod, but their lower end stuff is more name than product. Quote

I really liked the way that gl2 cranking rod performed. Good action, good sensitivity, light weight. Guess I'm in the minority on this forum Quote

The sensitivity needed for a drop shot is a completely different category. 1 Quote
