livemusic Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I have a 14' aluminum boat, 6 yrs old, and the plug has been in there since bought! It won't come out. It's a standard plug with the nut on the end that you can tighten or loosen. I guess dirt and corrosion got in there. Any tip on how to get this out, I can't budge it. Quote
wasabi_VA Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Is it the kind with a rubber body? I'd spray some WD-40 or something like that on it, give it a little while to penetrate, then try to tapi it out from the inside. Quote
ColdSVT Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 probably a steel plug and alum boat Electrolysis at is finest Hit it hard with wd40 or penetrating oil/spray Be careful takin it out...steel will wreck some threads quick Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted April 17, 2015 Super User Posted April 17, 2015 Well if the plug was put in from the inside and it and it has electrolysis, then do the above, but you may want to get a hammer and a deep socket that you can use to pop it out. If it has a white power look around the plug then it is indeed electrolysis. In that case, you're going to need a bigger plug once you get that one out because the aluminum is going to be crap. The crewboat's I work on were designed with SS piping, needless to say I know first hand about how bad electrolysis issues can be. Quote

I worked at a RV dealership for a short stint. To remove hitches that were rusted to the receivers, we would heat them with a torch and smack them with a sledgehammer. If that didn't work, we'd chain the ball hitch to the forklift and floor it 1 Quote
