When I was a wee lad about 10 or 11 yrs  old we lived near a small town general store. People used to cut thru our back yard enroute  to the store.

Well one day of fishing at the local pond,I found a dead black snake on the rail road tracks on the way home.I hooked it and dragged it thru town to show everyone .At home I hung it up on the clothsline  that happened to be in the path that people used to get  to the store. Why? I was  a kid and kids do things like that.

Later after dark at dinner we heard some one screaming bloody murder, running and cursing, mostly screaming.

Next day I found out that fat Mary had the misfortune to pass under the line to have the snake  drag off onto her shoulder. I never saw the snake or Mary pass thru our yard again. True story.

Mine is a long one involving a rattle snake in the boat with me and a buddy at Bone Creek in South East Kansas. Let's just say the whole lake heard us, in my infinite wisdom I realized if I hook the snake he can only come within 6'6" of me, so as I cried like a little girl trolling to the ramp all the thursday night jackpot guys were waiting with smiles on their face. One guy grabbed it behind the head, cut it off and tapped the head with electric tape and threw it in the trash. He sent the snake body home with me, where I had my neighbor dry it out and put it on a board. Still on display in our machine shed. I still get creeped out when I see it.

I run into them all the time. HATE 'EM. Mostly Copperheads and Cottonmouths with an occasional Black Racer and Worm snake. I kill the poisonous ones on sight.

When you're creek fishing and wading in the water with a cottonmouth swimming toward you, you develop a healthy fear of snakes.

hey there's a lot of effeminate guys that really like snakes. Jk lol. But seriously I don't really have any stories mostly gopher snakes around here. However a kid in this area picked up a baby rattlesnake that was "dead" and it bit him and killed him. Tragic, but a good lesson to learn from.

I used to catch them all the time as a kid. Put them in a bucket and bring them home to show mom. I had a couple bull snakes in my bucket once. Put the bucket just inside the front door, went to get mom, came back and there were no snakes in my bucket. Mom asked what I needed, "I'll take a snack and better make it to go!"

I like snakes, which is unfortunate because my wife gets the chills when she hears the word snake.

I stepped on a copperhead one time out hunting. I felt something hitting my leg, looked down, and saw the back end of the snake sticking out from under my boot. Lucky for me this snake was still a baby and not very big.

Baby's are the most dangerous. You were very lucky.

I saw one eating a rat in a creek. Creepy looking thing with a tail sticking out of it's mouth.

Very true, they aren't capable of controlling how much venom they inject like an adult can.

We killed 4 copperheads the other day around our house. We put the picture on our business FB page telling everyone to watch out for snakes, not promoting killing snakes. I do not kill a snake unless it is poisonous and around the house where a child could be bit. We got an entire FB page created devoted to calling the business disgraceful, calling us twisted killers, murderers, etc. We even got death several death threats, and comments wishing we were dead instead of the snakes. Good news is the post reached over 2 million people. All of this to say, watch out, the snake activist are out.

And just another reason to stay off Facebook...

Agreed. I can't stand FB. The only reason we have a FB page is because it is required for our business.
