This May Be A Stupid Queston, Motor Position While Stored

I have my first performance bass boat, motor is a 225. To my way of thinking that's a large motor. My question is, what position do you store the motor? Do you leave it supported by the motor toter? Or do you lower it? Seems like allot of weight to have hanging off the transom. When the boat is in the water, the transom is supported by the water evenly, not so when trailered.

Hmm.. never thought of that. I have to drop mine to fit in my garage and I've never had a problem.

Put motor down so water drains out.   I put a block of wood under the skeg and lower until skeg touches wood to help take pressure off transom.

Leave it on your transom saver and don't think twice about it. There are so many more stresses on a transom than sitting stationary in a garage.

^^^  Lower it to verticle. The water needs to drain, especially if you store outside in cold weather.

I keep mine on the motor toter, but I store it in the garage. If I stored it outside I would lower it to a vertical position if cold weather was approaching..........Al

 

PS- I lower it at the ramp to drain before placing it on the motor toter.

lower to drain.  if in cold climate keep it that way during winter.  I add antifreeze to my out board here in Michigan for winter and stored in garage.  Motor is in low position with the wood under skeg.

Lower at the ramp to drain. Leave it stored in motor bracket, as long as angle isn't to steep. Letting hydraulic hold up motor isn't good for it.

If you got the room to keep it with transom saver or similar bracket on do so. Keeps from putting full weight on transom and hydraulics as well as one less thing to do when heading out.
