Hollow Body Frog Smallies?

i never tried but always been curious has anyone had any success using hollow body frogs and smallmouth on rivers or criks if so what size or brand frog were you using and retrieve ive used torpedos buzzbaits and soft plastic frogs but never hollow body

As a matter of fact, my biggest smallmouth at just over four pounds came off a black spro bronzeye 65 in crooked creek. It was in the middle of the day in July or August. It was in an odd place to catch a smallmouth also. It was in still almost stagnant looking backwater. I saw a decent sized largemouth in a shady area that had a laydown in it. I made a couple casts with the frog and right when it came out of the shade the smallie did too and gulped it down, didn't even make a splash.

thanks the reason i asked is because on bps i was looking at the pad crasher jr and thought due to the size of their mouths that might be the perfect size frog to toss at them

Those should work fine. If you want them to walk the dog, you'll need braid though. They still bite it pretty good without walking it though.

I haven't caught a ton of them on a frog, but they will hit it just like any other top water.

In most waters, a frog isn't going to be your best option for smallmouth. In shallow creeks, I never go on a float trip without one. Lots of log jams and nooks and crannies to throw a frog in. Plus if there are some nice largemouth in the creek, they'll be bound up in whatever heavy cover is available.

Oh yes, in fact there are days I'm targeting largemouth with frogs and end up catching a majority of smallmouth. Some BIG smallies can be caught on them.
