How To Mount Transducer On A Bassbaby?

I use a portable Humminbird 120 Fishing Buddy on my BassBaby but would like to upgrade to some better electronics. Has anybody installed a transducer directly to the bottom of one of the pontoons? They are flat on this boat, and in fact have a ridge on each side of the pontoon such that there is a recessed flat area. I thought this would be a good spot for a flat puck style transducer. I haven't bought any new electronics in years to know how they come.

 

The traditional alternative is to install the L-shaped tranducer on the rear of the pontoon, but my BassBaby has the wheels at the back so I can't do this. I can't have the transducer mounted where it will hit the ground as I roll or drag the boat.

I put my Transducer on my trolling motor. Works great with my Hummingbird.

I'd say either mount it on the trolling motor, which could be a pain if you remove it all the time, or you can make a sort of bracket to clamp on the back and mount the transducer to that. It'd be essentially where you would mount it if the wheels weren't there, but when you need it out of the way, take it off and lay it in the boat.

I have a bass baby too. I took an old trolling motor , gutted it , shortened the length and mounted the depth finder on it . Then I can just clamp it on .

I found this at Bass Pro Shop it attches to the back of the boat with the transducer mounted on it and it is adjustable

I have to remove my trolling motor after each trip and set it down inside the boat. I can just see it getting knocked around if I do that. I'd like to try and find a way to utilize the hand-hold pockets around the boat. I'm thinking I can slide something down in one fo them and it will help stabilize whatever I use to drop it down.

 

Anyplace besides Cabelas to buy the tranducer bracket that Guppy posted? I could probably make that work.

I bought it at Basspro  it's called the Sulley transducer bracket  it's about 43.00

There is actually a trolling motor mount for the transducer and it comes with the clamp.

my redneck mount w/ a $3 home depot hand clamp and section of an old shower rod.  I've since replaced the shower rod w/ an old ski pole b/c it's thinner/has less drag.  it does occasionally move if i get up to 4mph (my home lake is electric only) + wind/surface chop. overall it works for me b/c i frequently move it from my jon boat to my canoe depending on where I'm fishing.  and I can also attach it to my buddy's jon boat.  i'm going to upgrade to that Cabelas one when it goes on sale.

I guess it all depends on what you are looking to spend and how "trick" you want your setup to be.  You could purchase a section of Yak Attack Gear Trac to mount on your Bass Baby and then use a Yak Attack Cell Block to hold a small 7aH SLA battery to power the unit.  The Cell Block has RAM balls on top to mount a depth finder on as well as the RAM transducer deployment arm that would be fully adjustable and the entire system could be removed from the Gear Trac as one piece for easy storage and transport.  Lots of kayakers use this system.

 

 

 

Or if you didn't need the battery you could simply install a section of Yak Attack Gear Trac to the boat and then purchase the Madd Frog or Harmony Liberator that comes with the transducer deployment arm.  You would bolt your depth finder to the plate and the transducer to the end of the deployment arm and then use the supplied thumb screws to secure it to the Gear Trac when you wanted to fish.  It would still be removeable as a single unit for storage or transport.
