12Outlaw Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 I have the roundhead weedless mold and two shakey head molds. I use roundhead jigs for casting jigs. I would like a jig mold for flipping wood, water willow, docks, any nasty stuff. What mold is best? I like the looks of the arkie mold that uses the 32798 mustad hook, but I don't know if that hook is strong enough. I need some opionions. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted October 31, 2008 Super User Posted October 31, 2008 My Arke mold uses the Eagle Claw 730. It is a very strong hook. Quote
jigandpig Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 i use the arky jig mold do-it model # ARK-3-AY* and use the gamakatsu 60* bend ewg flip heavy wire hook 4/0. these are by far the strongest hooks ive ever used when making jigs. there perfect for fishing heavy wood cover. 8-) Quote
jigandpig Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 My Arke mold uses the Eagle Claw 730. It is a very strong hook. yes this is also a very very strong hook but tends to rust and get dull easy, thats the only reason i dont use this hook. jmo tho. Quote
Matt 825 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 I may sound like "Poison Tail Jig Boy", but again I have been using the Poison Tail jig for Flipping also and I like it better than the Arkie for Flipping now. Also the 32798 hook is probably not strong enough for flipping into real heavy cover but Mustad also makes a heavier version of the 32798 hook. I think it is 32796 and you could definatley use that hook for flipping. Quote

I don't know how you are storing them for them to rust. I have some in one of my jig boxes that were made over 5 years ago and don't have any rust on them. Are you leaving a salty trailer on them? 12Outlaw Posted October 31, 2008 Author Posted October 31, 2008 Will the Mustad 32796 fit in the Do It mold flat eye Arkie Jig mold that the 32798 goes into? Quote
YankeesWin Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 With the heavier wire, my guess is that you might have to modify the mold just a touch. I haven't tried it so I can't say for sure. Quote
Matt 825 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 I dont know if it will fit the Arkie mold, but I have used the 32796 hook in a football head mold that took 32798. It was a little tight but no major modifications were needed. Quote
