Super User Catch and Grease Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 I started playing around a little with golf drivers and man its addicting! My uncle (who is also a novice but way better than me) took me from barely being able to hit the ball to being able to hit it a good ways in a few days... Now I just need to work on my form and accuracy... ALOT. Probably gonna buy a cheap set of clubs next time I can save up some muu-lah! 1 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 You know why they call it golf, don't you? Because **** is already taken. Stick to fishing. You'll live longer. 2 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 I used to be 'into golf'. Not enough hours in a weekend for both...at least for me. Fishing wins. Not quite as frustrating and actually cheaper, believe it or not. Quote
frantzracing0 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Golf is the most challenging thing iv ever done in my life. I have been playing for nearly ten years now and honestly......I still suck. Its even more frustrating than bass fishing. A good round can be ruined by ONE bad shot. I hate it......but for some reason I cant stop playing Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 Getting "into golf" is probably worse than getting "into fishing." Just warnin' ya. Glad you're enjoying it. And BTW: golf courses have some great ponds! Quote
RSM789 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I only enjoy playing golf if I can dedicate enough time to practice between rounds. Nothing worse than trying to learn something while also playing a round, except playing behind someone who is doing that. As much as I complain about a lack of etiquette from other fisherman here in Southern California, it is worse on the golf course. At least in fishing, you can get away from a jerk; with golf on crowded courses, you are forced to follow them around (or vice versa) for 3-4 hours. Quote
Big C Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Remember to just have fun with it. Buy you're clubs used, don't be afraid to buy older clubs (just avoid hickory shafts). Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 I was a Caddy for a few summers as a boy - It was OK, but I never got the bug. Seemed strange - hammer the ball as hard & far as you can . . . .and then go chase it ? The fishing around the courses was good though . . . . A-Jay Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 I was "into golf" until I found fishing 3 years ago. 2 leagues, countless hours on the range etc. Not enough time in my season for both. Haven't picked up my clubs in over 2 years. Quote
RSM789 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I was a Caddy for a few summers as a boy... "Noonan!...Miss it!...Miss it!...Noonan!" "Mrs. Havecamp...Mrs. Havecamp, your ball is over here...No, aim over there...Mrs. Havecamp." "Do you take drugs Bobby?" "It's Danny" "Sorry, Danny" "Yes, every day" "Good" Quote
Matthew2000 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Golf is a very good stress reliever. Go pound some balls at the driving range till you feel good. The trick is to not look at you're ball after you hit it unless you're really trying to get good. Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 I like golf and as a kid i used to join the local par 3 course for he summer and play a few times a week. All that being said as i got older there is just something wrong, to me, about paying to go do a "sport". Not to mention all the rules about dress code and all that mess...i'll stick to fishing, cycling, rock climbing and hiking....maybe another reason is i have enough expensive hobbies as it is Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 Don't forget to keep a travel rod in your club bag so you can fish the course ponds between holes.... Quote
ColdSVT Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 No you really dont lol Take it from a guy that used to play a lot of golf...its way worse than fishing lol However there is a beer girl on the links lol...and ahe usually has food too! Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted April 14, 2015 Author Super User Posted April 14, 2015 Lol guys... By "into golf" I didn't mean I was gonna dedicate my life to it haha Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 In one word, "Don't". Just walk away..... and go fishing. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 I really love golf more than fishing, started playing at a very young age. As much as I fish now that's how much golf I used to play. I gave it up about 8 years ago, one big reason was lack of etiquette. Sure there were jerks and slow play back in Michigan but nothing like I experienced here in Florida. Golf like fishing can be very expensive or reasonably priced, it's up to you. 100k boat or bank fish, public course or country club. Expensive lures and $40+ dozen golf balls, as with any thing there are alternatives, same goes for rods and reels and golf clubs, golfers are always buying the latest technology just like fishermen. I've got 4 set of clubs in my garage now, god knows how many drivers and woods, should I say fairway metals. I bought my timeshare in Cabo not for the fishing but for golf, I did a lot fishing too. 1 Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I am not a very good golfer but boy is it a ton of fun. I really enjoy it and do it quite a bit throughout the summer but not as much as fishing. Both are expensive hobbies. Check out an app called golfnow. You're welcome. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 Strictly a social golfer with the wife. It's her passion and mine is fishing. Do enjoy hitting the ball but will NOT take it to seriously as the frustration level gets high. It is a good stress relief to "KILL" the ball. 1 Quote

A big difference to me is that once I have the equipment you want (short of a boat?), you can go to a bank or rent a $20 boat and fish from sunup to sundown. If you're running a bit short close to payday and want to play five hours of golf, its going to set you back $50-$100...every time. It probably isn't right, but I separate the equipment/support costs from the 'event costs' in my head. But, you're correct - either is as expensive or as cheap as you make it. My clubs have been in the basement for 3-4 years. Sometimes I miss it a little...then I go fishing. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 BTW, C&G, good luck with that approach. You, yourself, confessed to a bit of OCD. If you take it up....and like it....you may well end up dedicating your life to it. Golf can grab you by the nads just as bad as bass fishing can. 1 Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 I Want To Try To Get Into Golf.. WHY??? IMO there ain't nothing more nerve wracking and aggrevating, except those who jabber non stop about handicaps, being a scratch golfer, etc. Almost as nerve wracking as ppl who talk non stop about fishing......oh wait a second Quote
tholmes Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Between fishing and guitar I don't have any money left over for golf. Tom Quote
