Super User Senko lover Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 I have finally found a summer job. I'm going to be working for a man who does professional lawn care in my area. He wants partime help (three days a week) through November. It's taken me a while to find a real job. I'm an entrepreneur to the core, and I've always gotten the little lawn, driveway, and car jobs but I've been looking for real work. Funny thing is, the job sorta found me, I didn't contact the guy but I found out about the opportunity via online. Anyway, we all know what this means . Lots of college money saved up and I need to sit down with the Bait Monkey and have a long, overdue talk............ 2 Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 Great. Remember the rule we all have forgotten - "Pay Yourself First." 10% or 15% out of each pay check off the top and into a savings account. More if you can do it. And remember two of the things that can eat up your savings: Girls and cars. Yep, when you start to date you will find out how expensive girls and cars can be. So be careful with your money; pay yourself first; and be cognizent of girls and cars and their associated costs. 4 Quote

Thornback Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Live within your means, pay your bills on time, spend some for enjoyment, and save some for the future. Just that simple and it allowed me to retire at age 55 which allows for a lot of fishing. 3 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted April 13, 2015 Author Super User Posted April 13, 2015 Absolutely right, guys. My practice has been 10% tithed, 10% spent, 80% saved, with a little variable for extra. I could suck in a lot of money spending stuff but I've been able to practice good self control. Had a great day my first day. REALLY like the guy who owns the business. Hardcore outdoorsman. He hunts, fishes, and traps. I can tell I'm gonna be spending a lot of time with this guy. His grandpa had some stock in a semi-private pond, he gave the stock and a small boat and boathouse to this guy. He says there's big bass in that pond, with an average size being 2 1/2 to 3 1/2. Yeah, baby! Sounds like a perfect boss. We got along great. 4 Quote
Big C Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Are you cutting grass, or plant installations? 1 Quote

Super User Senko lover Posted April 14, 2015 Author Super User Posted April 14, 2015 Are you cutting grass, or plant installations? At the start of the season it's both. As we get more into summer it'll be mostly mowing. Quote
Big C Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Installs are the best, harder work but good $money$. And they only last a day or two. Mowing great too because it's easy and consistent, once you mow a particular yard a few times you can get it done quick and easy. I think you'll enjoy it. Besides it keeps you outside, not stuck inside all day. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 I wish I could go back to my days when I had nothing to pay for and save a bunch of money. It's hard to do but if you can control yourself you can really sock some money away and make it so much easier on yourself when you move out on your own. Congrats on your first job! My first job was mowing 20 acres around a private lake for $35 when I was 13 Crazy to think I've been a working stiff for 15 years already. 1 Quote

jbw252 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Congrats! Remember to drink plenty of water while outside. X2. Plus, sun protective clothing & sunscreen. Especially because you're young & spend a lot of time outdoors. 1 Quote
