So I picked up a silver max for my first baitcaster and I am fully converted to baitcasters looking to invest in a good one. I want one that will last me for a long time. I am a bank beater and very hard on my gear. I was told the zillion is a tank and best bang for buck. Wanted more feedback.

I am a lefty so mettle h2o is out or I'd go that route

Yep, very tanky. Throw in a $10 Carbontex drag upgrade and you're good to go. Also, rod socks and neoprene reel covers are cheap and go a long way towards protecting your gear while beating those banks.

thats a big jump. make sure you can afford it and keep fishing.  otherwise I would highly recommend Lews or abu garcia.

Cost isn't a huge concern if this thing is built to last. I figure it will last the lifetime of 4 or 5 50 dollar reels

the Abu garcia Revo STX or lews Tournament Pro will also last a lifetime.

I would go with the older zillion vs the newer ones. I have owned the older zillion, and I can say from experience it is a tank and a very nice reel. The newer ones don't differ too much from the tatulas from what TT had to say. If I were in that price range, I would go with a chronarch ci4 or a couple of curado I's. You can get them new of eBay for a good bit cheaper. Or better yet, a metanium on eBay.

I agree with the above on getting the older Zillion it was a true masterpiece. the new TWS Zillions are not bad but they really are just a (small) upgraded Tatula. I also am a Daiwa fan so I would buy the Zillion over the Shimano curado I or CI4 IMO it is pretty hard to compare the older Zillion to those because it was such a fantastic reel.

Agree with the 2 posters above me.  The older Zillion is the tank everyone speaks of.  The new Zillion and Tatula haven't been around long enough to achieve that status.
