I have wanted Power poles for a long time and I've decided I'm just going to go ahead and buy some (Or one). I'm sick of using my motor as a VERY shallow power pole :bushy-browed:  I have no knowledge of them and wanted to ask you guys some question's. I have a 19'8" Ranger boat with a 225 motor. Will I need two or will one Power Pole be enough? What are some good brands? Anything I should stay away from? What kind of Depth can they hold a boat at? Are they really worth it and do they really hold the boat in 6' to 8' of water as said?

Thank you very much for any and all help.

There is only one brand called Power Pole the other is a Minn Kota Talon. The Power Pole comes in 8ft or 10ft and is hydraulic. The Talon comes in 8ft, 10ft, and 12ft models. I've got a single Talon on a 20ft boat and it works just fine for me

Thank's. That shows how much I knew about them. I didn't even realize that power pole was the name, I thought it was just what it did and their was many different companies. I did not want to sound like a tard in the boat shop but I guess I did a good job of that on the forum's

Power poles and talons have their own andvantages n disadvantages on the designs.

talons have a stationary case that is always there and drives straight down, and is a lil more compact overall in height.

Power poles are below water and extend out some like an outrigger, but are usually taller when raised up, especially in longer/deeper lengths

advantages to having a pair is that when they are down you are set firm. With only one often times wind or waves can turn the boat around, pivoting around the anchored pole.

I like the powerpoles personally. Powerpoles don't get gunked up and need flushing like talons. When the powerpoles deploy, they deploy away from the boat a bit, so in shallow sight fishing situations, water disturbance is even further away from the front of the boat. The powerpoles can be deployed when in deep situations to be nice and out of the way for a rear fisherman. Powerpoles have the remote and footswitches.  You can get sportsman powerpole for a bit cheaper than a talon. Powerpoles also look better IMO (and we all know it only matters that we look cool  ). That's my pros/cons in PP vs Talons.

I highly recommend Power Pole. Their customer service is second to none. I have an 8ft on mine and use it every trip. Having one is great, having 2 really makes it worth it. With one the boat can spin around the power pole when it's down. With 2 you can point the boat whatever way you want and it will stay there.
