Brayberry Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I've lived in Hampton Roads most of my life and mostly fishing the Suffolk lakes for years. In the last year or so, I've made a big effort to find bass water closer to my house. Google Earth has been my friend. I've now found about 15 lakes in Portsmouth and Chesapeake I'm catching fish in. Sadly I also found about 20 more lakes where fishing is prohibited Went out to one of the better lakes today and had a amazing day, caught 8 fish, and included in that was 3 different 7lbers and a 8lber (24 inches long). Just curious what unsual or unknown lakes other guys in the area are fishing. I'll start off with 2 lakes I've found: Dunedin Lake in Dunedin Park in Chesapeake off Taylor Rd Unnamed lake across from Western Branch Park on Portsmouth Blvd Coopers Ditch off Mt Pleasant Rd So what are some of the spots you've found in the area Quote
chmeyers Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I have been fishing oak grove lake off battlefield. Caught a few in there. Or the lakes near Greenbrier Mall. When you fish the lake near the park, do you park at the park or in the neighborhood? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 Are you looking at Hampton Roads in general, or more the South Side? I don't fish any lakes on the South Side. Everything I do is on the Peninsula. There are a number of great reservoirs like Bethel, Harwood's Mill, Lee Hall, Waller Mill, etc. 1 Quote
Luna2406 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 If youre willing to drive a little north, there are some good fishing spots about 45min away. Diascund Reservoir, Chickahominy Lake and River Little Creek Reservoir 1 Quote
CanoeBasser Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 lake Edward in VA beach its small but pulled a 8 pound fish out of there and multiple 4-5 1 Quote
Rippinglipz Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Hey canoebasser what were you using to catch that eight pounder and what part of the year was it and how often do you fish there and where's the best spot to cast without worrying about neighbors bothering you or trees in the way? Quote
ChazfromVA Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 hard to beat the suffolk lakes still in my opinion but i know how that drive can be a real pain day in and day out. not sure how far you are from bobs fishing hole on the northwest but it is fishing very strong right now. also when spring comes around dont hesitate to check out back bay. its coming back in a big way Quote
chmeyers Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 It won't be there for long and I have been run off out of there once, but the old Lake Wright golf course is a good spot. A couple of my buddies fish Bobs and they say guy like me have ruined it. I have a wake boarding boat i drop off at Bobs and leave out of. I know the catfish are good but Ive heard the bass have really fallen off. I do all of my fishing from the bank and I have found a few solid ponds and lakes around Ches/Va Beach area. I fish Oak Grove weekly and have mixed results. I ran into a DGIF officer and he told me they have been stocking it with LM Bass. Again, I am hit or miss there. The biggest i caught was about 4lbs. I know it has to have bigger fish but it is way over fished. 1 Quote
