stkbassn Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I bought matching rod gloves for them but that's as far as I go...looks nice I guess but Iike them much better when the rod gloves are off and my line is getting wet.... Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 Back in olden times (several years ago) I wouldn't buy the carrot stix because they were orange - just didn't like it. Wouldn't buy a yellow rod. Not big on white rods. I kind of like the Fenwick AETOS rods, with the blue sheen they have to them. So, basically, some colors yes, some no way. Quote
Joedodge Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Haha I like the orange but I've never fished a carrot stick Quote
jignfule Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Never even crossed my mind until I read some posts on this forum. To be honest, I thought it was a joke at first. IMO it's SILLY to be concerned with such things. 2 Quote
5fishlimit Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Look good, feel good. Feel good, fish good. 1 Quote
DTack Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Nothing wrong with matching it, but I don't pay too much attention. Just want it to perform! Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I like to match rod and reels. Im the kind of guy who appreciates visual beauty and aesthetics. That being said, all my rods are black with either red, grey, or green highlights and I like my reels to match. That being said, I think my next purchase will be a 7' HF iRod Genesis 2 and an Okuma Helios 2013 LP. I love the combo of Black and Green... you guys should see my Compound Bow... 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted April 13, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 13, 2015 Doesn't really bother me if my rods & reels don't match. Whatever feels & works best together stays together. Ditto Mike Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 None of my rods and reels match in color. I worry more about how it's going to feel in my hands after casting for hours on end. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 I care. But then I'm slightly OCD. Quote
bass1980 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Performance + Purdy > performance + ugly That's how I look at it. Most people that looks for color complimenting combos just don't do it for only colors. They already know their options are all performers. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 Totally a personal preference deal. I think I'm sort of old school in that I look at my fishing gear as "tools" So bright colors are generally a turn off for me. Just like a bright Orange Hammer or a Green Crescent Wrench. They'd work fine, but I just would not enjoy using them. A-Jay Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 One of my tape measures is fluorescent orange. You think I can find it? 2 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 Don't care about them matching by color, brand or anything else. Just as long as the rod and reel balance well. They only time I care about color though, is when I have a black rod and a black reel setting out in the sun. I then pick it up and scorch my hand. Quote
jtesch Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 One time I put a Fuego on a Skeet Reese rod and the Color combination made me vomit on the Fuego, which severely hurt the freespool time of the reel. Point being, color can effect performance 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 One of my tape measures is fluorescent orange. You think I can find it? Funny you mention that. I just lost a bright orange tape measure! On topic, rods and reels matching is not always under my control. However, rod socks must match. No exceptions. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 If it matches it's a bonus, but not something I'm concerned about. I've got a bunch of dark green Curados on cobalt blue LTBs, not pretty but they fish nice Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 If it looks good, I notice. If it doesn't, I don't care. I'll leave matching pretty colors to my jigs and trailers. Quote
Joedodge Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 Glad to hear not everyone subscribes to this sillynes!!!! 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 15, 2015 Super User Posted April 15, 2015 A place for everything and everything in its place. I care about color, contrast and coordination. That would include not just the rod and reel, but covers, carrying case and especially the color of my line. I like my boots polished, my pants pressed and heavy starch in my shirts, too! Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 15, 2015 Super User Posted April 15, 2015 I like it when they match, but not to the point where I'm going to hate it if it doesn't. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 15, 2015 Super User Posted April 15, 2015 Performance is more important than appearance. Having said that though, with all the choices available to us anglers you should be able to in most cases get both. I try my best to make them match. Quote
