Anybody fished here recently from shore? I was under the impression most of their bass population died last summer with the algae bloom they had but have heard some guys say they're still getting bass out of the lake. Just want to know if its worth paying the $$$ to get in or not.

I thought the algae bloom was at a different lake down that way...think it was Mission Viejo.  Didn't know about Laguna Niguel.

They both had algae blooms, Mission's was a golden algae which pretty much killed everything in the lake. I think Laguna was a Brown algae and thought it killed everything also but I've heard otherwise. Just really want to know a little more before forking out almost $30 to get in there!

From what I can see, all the reports have just trout, no mention of bass when I know that they used to report the bass fishing.  So if it was me I'd probably save my $30 and go fish Irvine Loop Lake or walk the shore at Irvine Lake.

Where's the Irvine Loop Lake? Is that the same thing as Yale loop?

I believe Yale Loop Lake is only for residents of Woodbridge or Irvine.

If you are going to gamble being cited for trespassing by fishing somewhere you shouldn't, Oso Resevoir would be a more intriguing choice. Nearly no fishing pressure and more escape routes from the authorities... :). Just wear a Boy Scout uniform to fool the nearby residents.

I'll just borrow my brother's boyscout uniform and then i wont have to worry about running at all.

Better fish while So Cal still has lakes.

Fished DVL, pretty low, but there are still areas of +150 feet of water.  I have a feelng next year we will be on stormwatch, watching the mudsides from the fires and watching the remaining houses that didn't burn slide down the side of the mountain with all the mud.....just a hunch.

That seems to be the historical pattern.  As a teen, I remember the California drought in the mid 70's being written up in BassMaster magazine and my parents dock on Canyon Lake (Railroad Canyon Reservoir) being almost completely out of the water.  The following winter, it rained so much that by February, water was flowing over the top of the dam & you couldn't reach some homes because there was water over the top of the causeways.
