TheToxicGamer97 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Hello, I live in New England and the lakes around me are almost all melted so I'll be able to fish finally. I just bought some Berkley NanoFil line 8lb test because a friend recommended it. I just curious to see what everyone else has to say about it? Quote
TiNuts Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 In open water or light cover I love it. It casts wonderfully. But get near rocks, it snaps little effort. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 11, 2015 Super User Posted April 11, 2015 Just put 8# green nano on my reel after having used 6# white nano for a few years. I really like the line casts great very good sensitivity and line management. I tried my knot(I dont use nano knot) out with the 8# and was just able to get a 12# anchor to move a bit til knot broke. So 12# strength with 8# nano for me. This rated better than Kanzen 15# braid that I have, Kanzen gave way with the same knot at 9-11# repeatedly. And yes keep it away from rocks. Quote
Alpha Male Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I have never considered it an option. Good braid has a smaller diameter and high strength. And mono/fluoro is more invisible and has better abrasion resistance. I wish you luck and hope you do well. Take my opinion with a grain of salt because i have never used it becuase i feel there are better options. Same goes for berkley ironsilk. Quote
Super User MickD Posted April 11, 2015 Super User Posted April 11, 2015 I use nanofil and like it. It is not the same as braid, but it has the same sensitivity. The difference between nonofil and braid is that nanofil is quieter through the guides, the white is quite visible to fish so that you need to use a leader with it, and while braid requires specific knots well tied, nanofil is even more demanding. So pick your poison. If you don't mind the noise of braid, then I see no reason to go to nanofil. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2015 For long distance casting in open water, it's terrific. I use it for several open water presentations with a fluoro leader and it's been great. It has very limited applications, but the things it does well it excels at. Quote
