Turkey season came in today in NC. My hunting buddy and I doubled up by 7:30 this morning. Thanksgiving dinner came early this year!

I've seen them strutting and heard them gobbling everywhere. It's always an exciting part of spring time fishing and I appreciate them for getting other guys off the water to chase them around :)

The place I deer hunt is loaded with turkey, but I have next to no interest in chasing them. I do buy a turkey tag for the fall season that overlaps with archery deer season just in case one gets dumb and walks by my stand.

I got a jake this morning. I was hoping for a Tom of course but it's my first bird so I couldn't really be too picky.

You guys & your jakes! Hunt those older birds, then you can brag! Of course I'm just goofin with you all, sort of, lol first beard I ever took was

10&5/8" 25lb. Last bird was 29lb. 10&3/16"

A guy shot a 34 pounder bird in my fave area.

It's sooo much fun talking to these birds.. I've set out decoys and had deer walk up and inspect. Nudge them, almost begging for that poser to do something! Anything!...I love it! Congratulations to everyone on their Turkeys!!!

If you're just wanting to eat them and not looking for a trophy then the jakes are the way to go. The meat aren't as tough as those old Toms.
