Joedodge Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I've searched a lil and seen a couple vids. But does anyone use small snap swivels or just the snap part to change lures quickly and see what they are biting on? Does it change the action that bad? Quote
Matthew2000 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 IMO it depends on the nurse that you are using, Jigs and plastics I would never use it but cranks I don't mind that's the only lure that I wouldn't mind but I don't use them. I can tie a Palomar knot fairly quick, just get fast at your knots and you won't even need the snaps. Quote
Joedodge Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 Knots not an issue at all. Just curious if anyone actually is doing It is all. Quote
Cameron211 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I do it and from personal view I've never seen a difference. As posted before jigs and plastics and topwater I never do, but cranks, spinners, and w.e else i do use swivels. I catch plenty of fish. Just my preference. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 I use them on cranks and never noticed a difference than before I started. Quote
Catch 22 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I use duo lock snaps quite a bit,no swivels. No for spinner baits, small hair jigs or plastics. C22 Quote
wisconsin heat Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I use duo lock snaps quite a bit,no swivels. No for spinner baits, small hair jigs or plastics. C22 Same, I take the split ring off all my cranks, jerkbaits, and topwaters (that use them). And I just use Duo Lock Snaps instead. You can buy Mustad KVD ones at walmart for not a bad price. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 Sorry, I just use a snap too, not a swivel. my mistake. Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I used to use them on everything because I wanted to be able to change lures quickly and braid is expensive. I needed up using a floor leader and no longer use swivels for any lures except something that has significant line twist, turbo frogs, super dupers, etc. I noticed a big difference with higher soft plastics. Sometimes I think it worked to my benefit- other times to my detriment ( my fishing partner usually copies my lure selection without a snap swivel). Quote
Catch 22 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Good quality duo locks are important to me. I use Tsunami brand 40 lb class a lot. Once in a while I`ll throw one away because it doesn`t have good memory. Lots of lures I use require free movement when tied on and the snaps save me the headache of a loop knot. C22 Quote
georgeyew Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I use snaps with out the barrel on all of my rods. I change lures very often and it helps me save time and not to cut line. I have not noticed much of a difference in the actions on my lures. Quote
bassinyea Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I use kahara or mustad duo lock snaps anytime i throw a crankbait, jerkbait, or topwater. Everything else is tied with a knot. For jerkbaits and topwaters I use a smaller snap which is size 0 and with larger crankbaits i use a size 1 snap to allow it to achieve the wider wobble that some crankbaits have. I use the smaller size on jerkbaits to make sure not to affect the suspending properties and diving angle of the bait. I use the smaller ones on topwaters to not pull them down on the front and affect the action. With treble baits I fish a pretty light drag anyways and have never had a snap open up on me fighting a fish ever, and that has been a lot of fish over the past 20 years. Only thing to be careful of with snaps is if you get hung up and poke your rod tip down in the water to free your bait, make sure to check the snap after you get your bait back. Sometimes your rod will push down and actually open up the snap and when the next fish hits you will be in trouble. Quote
Joedodge Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 Awesome thanks everyone I'll be giving them a try Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 I dont use them for the purpose of changing lures quickly. If I did though , I wouldnt use a snap swivel , just a snap. Quote
hatrix Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Duolocks are fine to use and I do it all the time Quote
Josh Smith Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I grew up on them. Now I use dual-locking snaps only, usually Bass Pro brand. If I'm fishing a lure that is prone to twisting the line, I will attach a swivel to the dual-locking snap. The wide curve of those dual-locking snaps is much better for lure action than the snap swivels I've seen. Josh Quote
BrownBear Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Use the snap swivels for my crank baits all the time, never had a issue with them. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 11, 2015 Super User Posted April 11, 2015 Yes and more than dozen other people I know, but not what most people are used to seeing. Very common down here in Florida to see pier fishermen carrying a bucket with the lures hanging on it's lip. Many of them (not myself) have a steel leader attached to each lure, they keep a swivel/snap on their mainline but not on the lure itself. I'm slightly different, I only use wire on my home made barracuda tubes, a #2 (45 lb) sampo snap swivel is on my mainline at all times on my specific rods used for that species. Quote
