Super User flyfisher Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 The weather has not been too cooperative this week which sucks since it is my spring break. I made up my mind that i was going to go out today no matter what the weather had in store for me. It was overcast all day long and drizzling with temps never getting above about 50 or so. Anyways, ended up catching about 12 total with about half being pickerel including one that was citation sized but the prize of the day was this beauty She measured just over 22" so i have my first citation LM and pickerel of the year. I should have gotten a girth measurement so i could guesstimate the weight but it's all good.... I will definitely be heading back to this place again. 4 Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 What is citation size? Also, cannot wait till the ice is out so I can get my st croix rage back to flipping LM into the boat. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted April 10, 2015 Author Super User Posted April 10, 2015 here in Virginia they have trophy sized bass as defined by either weight or length (for release purposes). The length measurement is 22" for the LM and the pickerel is 24". I could even submit the catch to DGIF and pay $5 and get some certificate or some junk too if i really wanted to. 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 And that is the reason no picture was taken I did measure him though cause she was pretty big and looked to be full of either eggs or lunch Growing up in New England I actually really loved catching pickerel - super aggressive and often times they saved the day. But now - the crazy - biting off every other bait I tie on - pike population here, has soured me a bit. A-Jay Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 Fly, you got to be kidding? The day was cold, windy and it rained. But you did great and I am glad you got home safe. Nice catch. This weekend should be beautiful for fishing as the Dogwoods are almost 100%; the sun will be out; the temperatures in the 70's; and the water temps heating up to spawn levels. Post more pics of your catches if you go out this weekend or stay home and grade papers over spring break. 1 Quote

I busted my butt grading the past two weeks so no grading for me this weekend I do need to do up my last week of lesson plans though and get prepared for my last formal evaluation on Wednesday though.....oh and do some other stuff for my last class but i am still gonna try and sneak out either this afternoon/evening or tomorrow afternoon after my kid's soccer game, if it doesn't get cancelled. Super User flyfisher Posted April 10, 2015 Author Super User Posted April 10, 2015 Nice fish. How's the kayak fishing? ,Bill Got back into it kayak fishing about 5 years ago and still enjoy it a lot. Around here there are so many HP restricted or electric only lakes that a kayak is a great option. Of course i am getting the itch for a new one though since it has been over a year since i bought one lol 1 Quote
madweazl Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Nice! I just moved into the area (Woodbridge) from CA and fished a friend of a friends pond today. It was great to get out there even though I only landed one little guy. Cant wait to start hooking something like what you got there. 1 Quote
