I have found that I can get older quantum PT reels like the energy and the reax for the cheap. Has anybody used these reels, and how is it? ( I think its the 2009 or 2012 model)4811779159_b0a5c8d4da.jpgReax PT

The Energy should be nice.  Used the 2 models below it and both work great. (Accurist and Kinetic), never heard about the other.  Sorry had to edit this because I read the question wrong.

I had the energy pt pictured above and the tournament pt.  Both had all kinds of problems.  I had both replaced and repaired twice.  Quantum did what the could from a customer service standpoint.  But in the end, they went into the trash.  I would not recommend the energy pt.  The other I have never seen.

What type of problems did you have with them? I've been interested in buying an energy pt for some time now and would love to know how they've held up for people.

It started to act like a coffee grinder after about 2 hours of use.  The breaks seemed to work sometimes.  I would get legendary birds nests.  The drag on one (the one quantum sent to replace the original I had that had been repaired) worked up to maybe 4 lbs.  The handle knobs started to melt one day in the sun.  The finish started to come off on one of them after a couple of months.  One of them would cast a mile one minute and then not cast 10 feet.

The casting, breaking, and cranking issues were consistent with all of the reels.

Each reel went back to quantum twice to be repaired first, then replaced by them, then the new ones repaired again, and they then went into the trash.

When I asked Quantum what the deal was, they said that these were known issues and that they were aware of the problems.  From my stand point, the people at Quantum did what they could.  They were polite and professional.  The turn around time on the reels was pretty quick (about 5 days after they received them).   I just wished the reels actually worked but A+ for the service though.

I always blamed the hot sauce.

I have the new energy and I absolutely love it! I know alot of people bash quantum but the new energy pt has been the best baitcast reel ive owned. I have the accurist as well and its nice. But if you got 150lbs id take a chance on the new energy. You wont be disappointed. And I was hesitant at first, but worth the gamble

I have three Pts from around that era. An accurist, and accurist saltwater, and the blue pt tour .

They have been rock solid in every way. I still use them today. Got all three in '08 I think.

i had a quantum catalyst PT from that same era (very similar to the two reels you're looking at)...i only used it for one outing before returning it. performance was fine but the way the ACS dial on the palm side plate sticks out and into my palm drove me completely bonkers...very uncomfortable for me. also, the line guide quantum uses has to be THE tiniest of any casting reel out there...i was concerned about my braid-to-fluoro connection knot being able to pass through cleanly.
