Dream Diy Hunt

Me and my buddies are looking to take a trip to Iowa, Kansas, Illinois or somewhere like that and public land. We just want to be able to see a lot of deer and a few decent deer it don't have to be a 150"+ to make us happy. We are tired of hunting the hills of eastern ky and want to expierence somethibg else. What state would you go to and what area? I know Iowa can be hard to get tags.

A big old ranch in Ohio, somewhere where there is corn,wheat,and soy. That diverse of a diet makes for some big bucks. I would prefer south east Ohio, as that's where most of the bigguns come from. But my uncle shot a 15 point on a apple orchard in northeast Ohio so I'm not real sure.

I wouldn't want to hunt public land in Kansas. You might be able to do a drive out in western KS but that's not all that fun IMO. Only certain areas have lots of deer here, almost all of them have big ones though.

We have a big deer here in eastern ky really big deer, we just want a change of landscape. But since we are going to go through the trouble and spend the money we want to go somewhere known for big deer not just any place.

I've heard since kanssas gives so many non resident tags now it's went downhill a little with the huntibg pressure. Is that true? We have a big deer here in eastern ky really big deer, we just want a change of landscape. But since we are going to go through the trouble and spend the money we want to go somewhere known for big deer not just any place.

I haven't seen any fall off in the deer hunting. I'm in the NE part of the state where the population is the thickest and the deer grow the biggest though.

Montana, its a sleeper state for big whitetail. Most non-residents go for the mule deer, but the bottom lands near agricultural areas are teeming with whitetails, big ones. Remember when doing research that they only count one side of the antlers, a 4 point is typically an 8.

We have a farm is South East Kansas. Great deer population and big bucks. No.... there isn't a booner behind every tree despite what you see on tv, but we have some very quality deer. You couldn't pay me to hunt public land there though. People are stacked in it, your stuff get's stolen, and all to often you hear the motto "if it's brown it's down".

I'd echo this.. Bob Marshal wilderness! Ya gotta go at least once.. Been there a half dozen times for elk. There are Whitetails too! I'm not sure about a guide requirement now though .. In the times past you could put together a DIY.. Wisconsin has huge whitetails, Indiana transplanted many Wisconsin genetics here beginning in the 70's..maybe consider a pronghorn hunt in Dakota too! Of course there's Alberta & Saskatchewan, but no do it yourself there, and pricey too.. Giant whitetails though..
