Rod / Reel For Weightless Fluke Fishing

I fish weightless flukes on a 6-7 foot medium heavy rod and size 4000 spinning reel. Seems to work well for me for both freshwater and inshore fluke fishing.

For what it is worth, I fish Zoom super flukes on a 7'2" medium Carbonite spinning rod with a Daiwa 2500 Capricorn spooled with 8lb BPS mono Excel, a 5/0 EWG Gammie (for a little keel effect)and a tiny swivel 18" above the hook to prevent line twist.  Always worked great for me.

Since it is reopened, I will give my opinion on the ideal weightless fluke setup.

I have fished soft jerkbaits since the sluggo first came out, nearly 30 years ago. 

After trying nearly every combination available, I have settled on a fairly simple and economical rig.

I use a Dobyns fury 733c  7ft. 3in. Medium heavy fast action rod. (I have noticed Dobyns rate their rods a little heavier than other brands. this rod feels closer to a medium action to me.)

With a 6.3 to 1 Diawa Tatula CT reel.

I fill it with 12lb High seas Grand slam Flourocarbon coated copoly line.

The rod cost $109.00 on amazon.

the reel was $99.00 on ebay.

This setup will cast a weightless Fluke or Senko a mile. Yet hook sets are still solid, when using heavier hooks.

I throw flukes on a Carbon light 7ft 6 medium fast action spinning rod with a carbon light reel.I use 10 lb flouro and a swivel most of the time.I can make longer casts and pick up more line with the longer rod.Even started using this set up for light t-rigged plastics.

I have a dedicated setup for weightless lures. It's a St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass "Teaser" rod with a Abu MGX. The thing can cast even the lightest weightless lures a mile, it's super sensitive. If you want to shell out the money for it, then I think you'd be extremely pleased with it, for what you are trying to accomplish.
