Bigchunk Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Im looking into the big boys, A lake i fish has alot of good size bass and good number of pa lunkers. Im thinking the big squarebills like that strike king 8.0 weighing in at 3/4, is what i read. Then the lc Mangum, at 1.5 oz. So i dont think i have a rod for the lcs but i do for the sks, fill me in i feel like those and torras tubes will yield a big sac in the spring Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 What about the Fat Ike by Rapala? I know those are larger cranks, but not sure if that is the range you are looking for. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 I haven't fished them yet but I'll let you know. A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 Just saw a rebel shallow diving Maxi-R at a thrift store for 3 bucks. I didnt have three bucks in my pocket to buy it . Quote
Ben Eipert Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 HD DD22 is my go to crank for big fish. You can get deep or just grind it into the bottom for a reaction strike Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 I have the 8.0 and have it on my 7'6" BPS Crankin Rod with 15lb mono to 30lb braid. Will be looking to use them up the the Sac. Delta next month, but overall they don't feel that much different then cranking a 5XD which isn't that bad either and they are the same rough size as the SK Wake Shad, as well as the Live Target Bluegill wake baits, so I'm thinking fish in the 3lb range shouldn't have any problems eating one, although I'm sure there will be some smaller fish that think they can too. fisherrw Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 how do you like the 8xd compared the the 10xd?? Quote
papajoe222 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I've done well on good sized bass with some of my muskie baits, but then again I've also caught some 10in. bass with them too. Don't get too caught up in the big bait = big fish mentality when targeting big fish. A crappie jig will catch a lunker if placed in the right spot. One thing I've found that is consistent no matter the size the lure is, you have to present it slow. Better than average sized fish don't waste energy chasing down their prey. Just saying Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 10, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 10, 2015 I've got a few jumbo cranks. Just got a 8XD in the mail yesterday. Hasn't touched the water yet but it looks like it's going to catch some fish for me. Quote

Years ago I kept catching big bass with giant shad in their gullet. So I purchaded a Bagleys Natural Shad made for stripers. I threw and threw that bait and never caught a fish. Man , I thought I had a great idea . LOL Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I do well with the 6xd and the dd 22 I have a 10xd which hasn't produced but I haven't thrown it much. I snapped a 72 mh carrot stick casting it Quote
