Super User gulfcaptain Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 Maybe your aggressivve approach isn't what you need. Slow down, fish a jig with a pork trailer or a chunk style plastic trailer. Not much movement. When you feel you need to move the jig, well stop and think about it, look at the clouds, think about what you're going to have for dinner, then move it slightly. Yep fish slow, if you think you are fishing slow, slow down and fish slower. You still have ice on the pond, it's cold and so are they. They aren't going to chase anything so a slowly dragged jig may get you the bite you're looking for. May try a Fat Ika fished the same way.....slowly dragged on the bottom. Quote

I tried dragging a tube and football head jig as well. I also messed around with a shakey head I made. All with no luck. That's why I made this thread. I just didn't understand why no matter what I threw, fished fast or slow, I couldn't get bit. It's never happened to me before. Quote
wytstang Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I was having the same issue and finally found a set up that worked, a swim jig paired with a MegaStrike fat shad swam slowly. Even then the bites a few and far between. I literally ran a crank bait into a what looked to be a nice 3lb bass and it just moved slightly forward to get out of the way. Seconds later a very large school of fry showed up and I couldn't get him to bite, he knew what I was up to so I gave up and went home . Quote
J McRae Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 As others have said, slow down. My line got tangled in some brush next to the bank and my weightless soft plastic stayed in the water. By the time I got untangled and the plastic had time to fall and sit, I had a fish on. I thought I was tangled again, but it ended up being a decent 17" bass. Quote

A Chrome/Black Super Spot should work when you run across a school of fry. I also got hit on a Pop-R while throwing it just past the fry. Quote
Hurricane Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Been to my ponds twice after ice out and didn't even get a hit.. that was a week ago. Weather has been a lot warmer since.. Planning on going tomorrow to try again. Going to throw a Texas rigged black zoom lizard at them.. Should work just fine.. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 First trip the trim pump air locked the water was so cold. Second trip it was like hurricane force winds and i was back lashing constantly. Another week or two I'll try again. Used to live five mins from a lake. Now it's forty mins. Quote
